1st gear 01E trans

Anyone know if the 'problem' with 1st gear in early 01E-transmissions includes 01E 2.5TDi FWD?

As far as I recall all 6speed 2.5 turbos had the hardened and wide 1st gear so should not be affected. Probably worth checking the gearbox code number though to be sure.

Ok... but how do I check the gearbox code number?

its stamped on the bottom of the gearbox, take a look at Charlie Smith's site for more info including a diagram on where the code is stamped.

Yes, Charlies site is good. But how do I know what code I'm searching for? The only FWD I can find in this site is for A4 2001> 1.6L & 2.0L. But my english is not so god , maybe I'm missing something?

the gear kode are on TOP of trannys..between the upper bolts on bellhousing... its stamped IN... F.X : AHA or CBL and some nrs....thats are the geartype and the YEAR...
