    Gearbox broken - 20v turbo

    Hello,

Yesterday i broken the gearbox of my Coupe 20v converted at turbo. Broken 3 gear speed.

Originally car use 01A system and i´m bit confused in find correct solution. I have some ideias but don´t know yet what i will do:

1º Repair my original gearbox with stronger gears and i no need worried only i need is pay at good guy to do this work.

    or

2º Find 01E gearbox 6 speed that as i know is more stronge that original 01A.

Anyone can recomend me best choice to have stronger gearbox but maybe next time broken is transmissions... don´t know.

I use full sachs racing clutch and 7A flywheel, this can be fit in 01E? As i know too is that transmissions 01A not fit in gearbox 01E.

I find 01E gearbox in France and i can buy this if not much hard to fit in car.
This car is not to rally or race car.

    Many thanks to all.

Best option is to swap in a 3B S2 01A which is a direct fit if you use S2 front driveshafts or you can fit the front diff output flanges from your coupe quattro and use coupe quattro driveshafts.
3B 01A is stronger than the coupe quattro version, but uses different (longer) gear ratios. With that you should be fine up to ~ 300-350hp.
The only other option is to fit 01E but there is some expensive and rare parts required, such as gearbox mounts and gear linkage....

        Hello,

My actual setup i think run with 400Nm by now so is better not play with 01A maybe. I have parts to do 550ps with petrol and is normal that torque can go up 600Nm to this power.

Please you can show me the references of parts that i need buy of gearbox mounts and gear linkage?

        thanks,

best is to buy a s4- rs4 b5 typ 01e gearbox for that powergoal (550hp)
          s4 gearboxcode : dsy
          rs4 gearboxcode : fdp
is has ratio 4:11 so normal this will be no problem with your 7a 20v diff
          audi coupe quattro b2 2.2 20vt project (573hp-626nm)

I have the standard 01A 5 speed in my S2 with 450 HP and 620 Nm, still going strong after a lot of spirited driving and hard launches. I do consider it to be a consumable item, however, they are cheap to pickup. The 3rd gear on the 5-speed is perfectly suited to the car with this level of power. I've got all the bits for a 6-speed conversion, but will wait to see how long this box lasts before changing it.

I had the idea that 01A of Coupe 20V was the same of 01A 3B engine that support same torque 310Nm.

The external dimension of 01A CQ20V is same os 01A 3B engine?

In this case i agree with use Error404.

As i said i not use the car in race or rally is only a weekend car when i have time.

Do you know the 3 letters of your gearbox? Is ASZ box?

S2 3B gearbox is coded as ARV. It is often told that it is a bit stronger than boxes from NG/7A (AKU,ASZ), but there is no info what is strengthened exactly. At last front differential sizes are the same among 3B and 7A boxes, flanges are interchangeable.

No, the parts does not fit. The gear change mechanism is different.

You can buy a 01E gearbox from C4 S4/S6 with 5 or 6 gears and modify a B5/B6 Audi A4 or Passat gear linkage. You can buy mounts from here: http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...t=77109&page=3

Finally i will receive this days gear mounts to use my subframe 20V but i have here now 01E CBD gearbox. I´m studing how i will use linkage.

Complete linkage Audi A4/B5 or B6 is 100% plug&play in tunnel of car? Not necessary holes in tunnel to fit it?

Anyone have pictures in B3 cars with gearbox 01E fitted including adaptation of linkage?

No it isn't. Same size on gears. Only some different ratios.

Probably you are right. But size isn't everything and they seem to handle more torque, plus Audi claimed to have strengthened them so I guess you can make your own conclusions.....
