about to replace the outrer cv joint at the weekend .do i need any special tools for this job ,
how easy a job is this to do ,does the driveshaft need to come right out to replace the joint and
any top tips appreciated
You only have to remove the ball joint and hub center bolt. Then take the drive shaft out of the hub and put the bolt back. Then lock the driveshaft from turning with a friend and large pliers etc. Then just tighten the bolt enough and the outer joint will pop off.

Have you got the repair kit (includes all the bits u need) I think p/no is 441498203A
but somebody with better p/no knowledge should be able to confirm this ?
They can be bought exchange now, with cv boot and all bits needed. You will need a very long strong bar to do the bolt up with afterwards and also to slacken the bolt. its a 27mm external hex.
Thanks for the great tip on using the driveshaft bolt to pop the joint off, did one on my S4 today quite surprised at how tight they are on i wouldn't want to hammer it off.
Maybe of interest when i did my cv boot the other week, the bolt that came with it looked like it wouldn't bolt up flush to the hub because it was mildly chamfered, anyone else seen this??? I re used the old bolt for the time being until someone tells me different, was a genuine audi kit too.
