    Flywheel option

I have and AAN motor going into a Coupe(US) and want to get rid of the dual mass flywheel. And also want to make sure I don't need the spacer between the trany and motor so it will set further back. I was thinking of using an aluminum 7A flywheel. I know someone has used a 7A flywheel but I just want to confirm this.

The flywheel is made by SPEC here in the states: And they have a stage 3+4 clutch for it that can both handle 530lb/ft of torque.

The other big reason I would like to go this route it it only costs 329.USD while the S4 AAN costs 669.USD not sure on the weights tho.

Just got off the phone with SPEC and the 7A aluminum flywheel weighs 10 lbs. Going this route will save a lot of money if it will work.

They don't have a 3B they only make US versions AFAIK. I don't know but i think the 3B and the 7A are similar. I did a search but 2 letter words (3B and 7A don't count.

@Billman: the dual mass flywheel is real heavy, and you can only get an aluminum flywheel in single mass.

The reason I'm asking about this 7A is because I have read of people like (Josh-stateside) and others here in the states. And that it is a fraction of the cost of an aluminum flywheel made for an AAN engine.

3B, 7A, NM, MB, RR, 1B, 2B and MC flywheels are all interchangeable. All single mass, same profile / offset (crank mount to clutch mounting face). They also have the all important firing point sender in the correct location.

Is there a lightened flywheel to replace the dual mass ABY? If so what are the benefits and drawbacks and how much are they?
              Cheers guys

If you replace your ABY with a single mass flywheel it will rev up faster and be a little less driver friendly but who cares. you would also have to remove the spacer between the trany and motor (about 8mm). There has been a few people that have gone to a 3B flywheel on here, but i have found an aluminum piece (7A) 10lbs for about 330.USD. That is about half of what other AAN flywheels or dual mass to single mass aluminum flywheels cost.

Here is a web page that has been talked about before:Flywheel

What do you mean with less driver friendlt?

Would the ALuminium 7A hold the torque of the turbo engine? (Dont know, just asking)!

Yes they are and no they are not.

There are 2 types of 3B wheels. One for 200 and one for S2. They're different for starters.

Urq and 200 has a 016 series box that needs a flywheel that accepts the longer 016 gearbox main shaft. It has the needle bearing in the crank and not in the flywheel as 3B S2 7A NM (01A box).

So 3B 200, MB RR 1B 2B MC are interchangeable in the same car and so are 3B S2 7A NM.

Well SPEC have the aluminum flywheel and both Stage 3 and Stage 4 clutch kits can handle 530lb/ft whish is about 720nm of torque. thats enough for my plans.
