  • Locking nuts for stud conversion

I'm thinking of buying a Wheel Stud Conversion Kit from Axis Motorsport to make life with spacers easier:

    http://www.axismotorsport.com/shop/w...eels-p-50.html

But, I have trawled the internet and can't find a good source for locking nuts. Does anyone know where I can get some from?

I have found these McGard ones:
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MCGARD-LOCKING...item4398e58825
Which have a hex size of 22mm and are meant for 4x4s which probably wouldn't fit.

    I've also found this site:
    http://gearworksmfg.com/wheelaccesso...scaplocks.html
But the locks available don't look to be great quality and they won't ship outside of the US.

My other option is to buy a Wheel alignment stud tool:.
    http://www.priracing.com/product.php...-5--pack-of-2-
    And use longer bolts.

So I don't really know what to do at the moment! Does anyone have an opinion on a stud conversion or advise on what else I could do?

Thanks Jamo but, I should have mentioned that I need conical seat bolts as I'm using aftermarket OZ wheels.

Cheers Kev, I might take you up on that.

It's strange that McGard don't have an cone seat equivalent to the 25167 with a 19mm key hex?!

The closest one I can see is the 24019 which requires a 22mm key hex.

I thought it was supposed to be the other way round with the radius nuts being harder to find!

                Studs

Is anyone running studs that would recommend or warn me off them?

I've heard lots about them, from what I've gathered the main +'s & -'s are:

+ Changing/removing wheel is easy especially with spacers.

                - They can come loose. - Put down to poor installation.
                - You have to remove the caliper to remove the disc. - Not that big a deal.

Any other comments before I order some?

Do you not have to remove the calliper to remove the disc anyway?

It is 2 joints to potentially loosen/fail instead of one, however if properly installed I don't see an issue, your wheel bolts don't slacken themselves if properly installed.

Studs would make life generally easier I would have thought.

On that note why did Audi use wheel bolts and Honda use studs?

Did you do the stud conversion in the end Colesey?

Been considering this for mine to make life easier with getting wheels on and off

Yes. Unless, of course, you happen to be a wizard or a magician.

Yes I did. I bought the kit from Axis and now use these wheel nuts:
                          http://www.raceways.co.uk/Star_desig...inc_finish.htm

They were one of the few M14x1.5 tapered seat locking wheel nuts I could find.

The kit from axis were the screw in type. So I just thread locked them in. A couple screwed out when taking nuts off in the first few months but since then they've all stayed stuck.

The conversion does make changing wheels much easier so can highly recommend it.

Any other questions let me know.
