  • 17x8 or 17x9 size for RS2 (5x130)

looking for some opinion from more experienced users...

Since some time ago I am looking for a set of wheels that can fit the 245/40/17 tire size on RS2 as stated on his registration book. Not decided (or found).

ET must be +/- 50 and 5x130 holes... plus I prefer maintain the original look (CUP1) or CUP3 (or Turbo as knowon on some other brand imitations)

    came with those sites:

anyway do 17x9 will fit on RS2?...

The RS2 actually had 17x7 wheels. Millemiglia I think only made replicas of the Cup1 and Cup3 wheels...meaning that they were only available in 5x112. I have seen an S2 Sedan (the one in my avatar) that had an RS2 engine and full RS2 suspension. He ran 17x9" OEM Porsche twist wheels (Cup3). He had to gently roll the inside of the fenders. ET55 I believe.

Do take great care. I know this has been said time and time again but the OEM dunlop RS2 tyre was very narrow ( in fact little difference with 225/45/17 advised replacement size ).
If you fit wider wheels and newer 245/40/17 tyre you can have clearance problems.
On occasion this has led to sidewall failures. Given this could happen at high speed not good.

My guess is that wider wheels would give the tyre a less round profile and increase clearance allowing safe use.

Do other forum users with RS2/S2 avants know which combinations work ?

        Hi
I currently have 225/45/17 Bridgstone S03, and I have the original Dunlop 245/40/17 on spare tire; it realy looks more like a 225.

Since the RS2 registration book only have 245/40/17 tire measure only in there, I run a change to have a nice fine from police (if they detect that, plus, need some crying and wining to pass MOT every years.
Belive me no one wants to hear about this prob and danger of runing 245/40/17 on those 7" narrow wheels... only the tire makers advise me not to fit. other says "if its in book... bla bla, you must have that measure"

So from some time I am looking for 17" wheels to fit safly 245/40/17. Or ask from Portuguese Audi a letter stating other measures, so I can go to the governamental vheicle registration (dont know the correct translation) to change my registration book. maybe to add aditional ones:
"225/45/17", "255/35/18", "235/40/18", "225/40/18" at least one of those they must state as OK.

I am aware to that original porsche wheels contral hole need to be bored out from 71.6mm (original) to 73.1mm so they go trought the RS2 wheel hub... that could be made on a specialized machinery house, luckly have hne near to me.
For 17x9 I need an ET48 or ET50 sort of. Or aim to 17x8.5 if exists... someone told me already that 17x8 still a bit narrow to 245/40/17.
