  • Tyre size for 17" wheels?

I'm going to be getting tyres soon for a set of (ex 80 cab) Boleros which will be fitted to my B3 CQ. The Boleros are 7" by 17"........so...... Do I go for 225/45's or 205/50's
225's seem to be cheaper but what are others running on their 17" wheels.
Car has standard 205/60x15's at the moment.
    Cheers folks.
    John.

Are you sure they are just 7" wide ? What ET are they ?

I'd be thinking of 225/45/17 for various reasons.

4x108 Boleros 8G0601025BZ17 7x17" ET37. I would prefer 225/45 but it's better to be sure of the tie-rod end clearance.

I have similar sized rim's and use 205/40/17 for that offset but would have thought a different offset would be needed for 225 tyres and then your talking arch foul....might be wrong, has been known...

Apparently there's at lest two types of 4x108 Boleros, because the ones I had on my car was 8J ET35. Tyres was 205/45 but now I'm having 8J ET35 wheels with 225/45 with no clearance issues.

ok on my b3 I hjave had the bbs rs2 wheels with 225 45 17 tyres. fitted greay on s2. on the saloon very tight. offset is 35 and they stick out a bit. moving the balljoint fully into the arm helps lots.

I got some s4 wheels on the way. will let you know if they are a waste of cash.

                Boleros, ET37, 225/45/17 and no clearance issues on a '91 CQ20V

Going back to the 205/60/15 speedlines soon, now I have a decent set, and hoping for a better ride quality after that

That's very interesting, don't you have a partnumber or they were not OEM audi? I have seen 8J only with 5x112 PCD.

on 7J, I'd be looking at 205/50R17 as 225/45R17 is going to look a bit baloon like. 215 may also be suitable, I'd look at 45 profile to stop them looking like tractor wheels.

John if they are genuine 80 cabriolet wheels they will be 7J X 17H2 ET37 (pt no 8GO 601 025 B) guaranteed! They originally came with 225/45/17 tyres from the factory and we have these wheels on our final edition cabriolet.

Will 225 tyres fit? Yes most definitely with no issues at all. Cabriolet is a B3 chassis.

There were 2 versions, maybe more, of these wheels in 4x 108 pcd. The 7J et 37 and the
8j et35 which has a much deeper rim to it and is rare!

Audi also did a 8j et 35 in 5 x 112 for the A4/A6 again deep dish which i sold to tonks on here. That should clear up a few not sures.

They also has 45° lip instead of 90° I've seen on other 4x108 Boleros.

215/45's work very nicely on a 7J 17" rim on our cars, after much experimentation it's my size of choice. 225/45's however are fine and cheaper, 205/50's would work but I'd only consider that for a winter tyre size.

It's worth noting that 215/45/17 is very close in rolling radius to a 205/60/15 which is a factory spec size for B3 CQ's etc.
