    Hi all,

    We were at the NEC classic yesterday and Audi was displaying it's noggy blue RS2. It had its original (slightly splitting!) SP8000 tyres.

    I recently read about the fact that dunlop had labelled these as 245 when, in fact, they are 225 section tyres. What is the actual story here as the tyres for the Cup alloys should definitely be 225 45 17. Were they really mislabelled products originally?

    I need to get tyres for ours and looking at either Eagle F1's or Toyo's. Tyreleader is a great online service by the way.

    Irrespective of what happened back in the day.

    I would suggest you go for 225/45/17 types on the 7 or 7.5 x 17 RS2 rims. Can't remember which size is correct.

    If you were using an 8 x 17 rim, I would suggest either 225/45/17 or 235/45/17. The 235 would protect the edge of the rim a bit.

    Others may agree or disagree and then you can make you own mind up. But there are already a good few threads on here about this.

      Ok thanks. Yes I'll stick with the 225's as the alloys go nowhere near kerbs etc. Always struck me that the Dunlop story was odd and must have led to people fitting wrong tyres.

        Yeah, the spare in the boot of mine was wearing a 245/40 Continental and it looked way too wide for a 7" rim but I guess someone must have run the car on that size at some point for it to have been there.

        225/45/17 is the way to go, 235's are a bit wide for a 7" wheel. I've currently got Toyo R1R's fitted which sit really nicely on the rim and are outstanding in the dry.

          That's good to know thanks. Read various reviews of the Toyo's but handy to find someone that has them fitted to a similar car. Many thanks; quite a collection of cars you have there!

            No worries, the R1R's are in a different league to regular T1R Toyo's which are okay but nothing special, however there are downsides, increased road noise and they only come with 5.5mm tread. That said I've done 5K miles on mine and there's lot's of life left on them, if I was using the car everyday all year round I'd probably go for more conventional tyre's. I use my S2 as a daily driver and run that on the original 16" rims, got a set of Uniroyal Rain Sport III's ready to go on for the winter which I'll be fitting this week.

            I have too many vehicles, I'm good at picking up interesting cars but not so good at parting with them. After a lot of pontification I've recently decided to sell all the VW's as well as a vast associated stash of spare parts so I can concentrate on my Audi's.

              Nice. Similar story here with 6 Audi's and some others. 86 ur quattro is about to come back out to play after several years storage. Had that since 93 and the RS2 since 2004. Daily drive is a C6 A6 3.0tdi q Le Mans and a great old 03 C5 Allroad. I'm terrible at getting rid of things.

              Other daily work hack is a 51 plate Passat with 220k on original clutch!

              Just sold emerald S2 Avant after having that since 97. Great car but needed a new loving home as it was unused for so long. Chap has done lots to it and it will live a great new life. Sad to see it go.

              Next project is to get the 73 Mk1 Escort Rs2000 alive again. Restored by dad and I in 93 and garaged ever since. Need more time for all this fun

                That's quite a selection of Audi's! I've always wanted a UR but ended up buying my S2 instead back when I was kinda looking for one. The S2 came up locally and was pretty cheap for what it was, though for good reason, I've spent a huge amount of time and a fair sum of money sorting the car out. There really is no such thing as a cheap S2 as I've learnt over the years.

                The RS2000 is a seriously collectable car now, if it's been garaged hopefully you don't have much rust to contend with.

                  I run RS2 alloys on my Coupe when I bought it it had 245 40 17 tyres on it I ran them and replaced with same, then read the threads about the correct tyre size so now run Contisport 5 225 45 17 tyres which are great, I have to say I used to drive hard with the 245's on and never had an issue although handling does feel better with 225's especially steering

                    I went on the web and researched a lot and settled for the Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2's. I run them on my daily URS6 saloon 255 x 40 / 17 on 8J 17" plus specks and have nothing but praise for them. I was actually thinking of continental contacts but settled with the Asymmetric 2's being persuaded by the many many individual reviews i had read for and against. I can't fault them they were faultless on the recent Scottish tour, be it in the pouring rain or dry. Another benefit is they run quiet enough and are not as harsh in the side walls like some yet steering response feels very good.

                      Thanks guys Good advice all round. I will go to 225/45's as I'm sure it will handle better.
                      Quickly got some Porsche locking nuts on the alloys too. It's been so long since I've used it that I had no idea they weren't secure. Don't fancy replacing those if they go walkies.
