I know it's been asked but just wanting to clarify a particular size of wheel for the avant:

17x10 et 25

Seen some lush bbs rs reps but think rear clearance will make them a non starter

Yes, unfortunately waaaaaaay too wide without uber gay stretch or some major surgery mate.

I imagine they would increase your scrub radius on the front whuch would make the car tramline and less stable.

8" to 8.5' on a B4 depending on ET, and size of tyres and the ride height.

On a C4 - 8" to 9", again depending on the above criteria.

Just my opinion / observations over the years.

But tbh it pays not to go too extreme as it causes too much grief ime.

For your B4 - Coil overs with 8" x 18 rims with 235/40/18 with new oem bushes should be good for most people and everyday hassle free use, and still perform well and look good.
