  • Newbie S2 coupe ABY owner from Sweden/Finland

    Hello to all forum members!

Thought I should introduce myself as I'm a new member altho I have registered the account few months ago. Made my first post today so thought It's time to do this now.

First of all thank you all in this forum! It has been very helpful for my 1993 S2 ABY Coupe project which started in November 2018.
I live in Sweden cross border to Finland and what I definitely will be doing is posting stupid questions and hopefully sometime I can share some of my experiences back to you.

I have a Youtube channel where all the S2 building is posted as long as some other VAG projects that I own.. Some of you could have already bumped into it. Spoken language is Finnish but all the S2 videos has English subtitles. Anyway check it if you are interested: https://www.youtube.com/c/lokoverkkaritalli

    Thanks!

Plan is to restore it to it's former glory with "few" tweaks using good taste (at least in my point of view). It's not going to be original one, not going to spend fortune on all OEM parts or anything like that. Modifications will be done that way that it would be somewhat possible to undo those and get back to stock. Have been collecting the parts, planning and finding the information about almost everything related to S2. As I'm not a professional mechanic or know absolutely nothing about these so have been doing reading reading and yet more reading. Future will be full of try and error.

That Holset will find it's place in the engine bay sometime as it's meant to be that way but after I get the car through MOT with current setup. As you have seen it's been such time consuming work to get it running properly after 7 to 8 years of how to say it "standstill"

Would like to get it street legal with the bigger turbo and IC but haven't had time to figure that out yet. What I'v heard it's not a easy task to do and also have to figure/calculate is it any reasonable as cost wise. The insurance costs could go so high that there is no reason to do it...

But the main goal now is to get that baby running properly and through that MOT, after that I know I can start dismantle it in some point and start to find all the rust spots, cleaning and painting things, changing/recondition all the parts that needs it, installing and fiddling all the power upgrades back and so on..

Time is limited as I still have family and too many VAG cars that need too much attention all the time. Luckily arctic summer will bring its nightless nights...

Well I'm sure you'll find this forum a very valuable resource indeed, not just for sourcing parts but for help and advice as I'd imagine most of us have been through the same issues.
If you were looking for a factory appearance in the engine bay but a bit more power how about an rs2 or kkk26/27 hybrid turbo?
You could see over 400hp and bags of torque which will make good use of the forged bottom end-also it would be plug and play.
Best of luck with the project and keep the vids coming
