    S2 in Australia

After already posting a query and getting a very quick response from Tractor Dave, I thought I should introduce myself.

I'm a naturalised Aussie from the UK, Nottingham originally, having moved out here in 2006 and currently living in Trinity Beach, Cairns, Far North Queensland.

Owned and loved a CQ20V when in the UK but sold it before I moved out here. Looked for another in Australia. The CQ was never imported but the S2 was in very limited numbers - 25 I believe. I've looked on and off for one ever since and just last month one came up for sale and I now own it. It's a 1994 model, black with the cream leather interior. Totally original as far as I can tell and well looked after.

Some work to do here and there, minor movement in the front left suspension top hat, perished bump stops, and lining coming away from door cards. The latter is booked into the auto upholsterers. I'm looking into Bilstein B6 front and rear - anyone confirm the part numbers? Are 34-030868 the fronts? And I'm not at all sure of the rears. Searching suggests 24-062121. And if anyone has a recommendation for the front top mounts I'd be keen to hear from you - there seems to be quite a few options.

Windows decided to stop working soon after I took possession but with the help of Tractor Dave and the forum, this was traced back to a dry solder joint in the relay. All fixed now.

    Cheers

    Sol

    Hi Sir,

I'll try to point you toward the possible answers to your Bilstein P/N questions, and offer an opinion re top-mounts; as follows:

    a) For ease of retrieval for everyone, shortly, I'll try to put the P/N stuff at the current end of this thread (link below):

    b) My humble top-mounts reco can be perhaps best understood with a reading of posts #39, #40 and #64 in the "Wanted: Volunteers..." thread (link below) re comparative mount strengths, most recent reco'd mounts, their availability and why.

    Cheers, and Welcome!

Welcome and well done fixing the relay.
I have fitted a few sets of Lago Blues savers and they work well. Try your local Audi dealer and see if they have any of the original top mount bushes left? They sold out here in the UK a year or two ago. Originals are by Boge.

I was wondering where that S2 ended up (Queensland I see… ). I met the previous owner and had a Quick Look at the car when he first brought it over to Perth. Looked to be in great condition.

Thank you - yes, I've since swapped quiet a few emails with him and he has been very helpful. He looked after the car well and has provided me me with a good platform for maintaining the car as it should be. Funnily enough, I looked at the same car when it was perviously advertised but he beat me to it! Bar the few things I've mentioned above, it also goes in for paint correction in a couple of weeks. Paint is good but it has the potential to be outstanding.
