  • Noobie introduction

    Hi all,

Having been visiting this forum for a while but had some “technical issues” activating my account – all sorted now I hope!

My name is Andrew and I live in North London. I currently have a very heavily modded 205 turbo. Some of my 205 friends have started to upgrade to M3’s and the like and I feel that I am getting left behind in the arms race! So, after a lot of research, I’m very interested in acquiring an S2 in the coming months. I want something with plenty of go, great build quality, a little different and a bit more grown up – the S2 seems to fit the bill perfectly. Not too sure whether to go for a coupe (3-door hatch??) or an Avant. Probably an ABY Avant as it should be good for the treck to the ‘ring (certainly better than doing a pan-European road trip in a 205 with no stereo!) and also has that all important “stealth” factor.
Anyway, that’s probably all from me for now, except to say that there seems to be a good spirit on this board and lot’s of knowledgeable people with whom I hope can help me to enjoy S2 ownership.

If you're single, a coupé will be fine. Family man ? Go for the Avant. :mischeif:

There are a few forum members who are selling their prized S2's right now so a lot to choose from.

Forum spirit is very good and if you're really passionate about your S2, you'll end up on the forum all the time...

Regarding your pug, is it a 205 Turbo 16 ??? I thought they only made a handful of all wheel drive mid-engined 205 T16's for rallying and the Paris-Dakar Rally andonly a few got to be road legal for homologation purposes... Or is yours a special series or something ?

I'm no Peugeot specialist but I always thought the top of the range 205 was the 1.9liter GTI and the top notch 405 was the MI 16 ( with some of them even being AWD I think )

      Anyway, again.

You have made exactly the right choice. There are no performance differences between the Coupe and Avant models, only style issues, which of course the Coupe wins hands down!

If you can afford an ABY vs the 3B, then go for an ABY. You get 6 speed box, overboost, coilpacks and dual mass flywheel which all add up to a more modern smoother feeling car IMO.

Standard buying advice is too ignore mileage to a certain extent and buy on condition spending as much as you can afford. Buy a dog and it will cost you a fortune.

        to the forum!

        Cheers,

        Steve.

          Welcome to the forum

I too owned a heavily modded 205 prior to getting my Audi. Tuned Mi16 engine. They're great fun and you will miss the lightweight stop/go/turn flickability should you buy an Audi S2 variant.

Having said that the Audi's are much easier to live with and very well built. Quality!

            Hi there,

I have no plans to be a family man just yet – there would be no funds left for the “important” things in life – lol!

With regards to my 205 – if it was a T16 I wouldn’t be concerned with my friends getting M3’s, believe me!
The 1.9 GTi was the top spec and the 405 Mi16 (which did come in 4WD flavour) Actually the hottest of the lot is the 405 T16 – 2l 16v turbo with 4wd. The MI16’s are quite rare now as most have had their engines ripped out and stuck in 205’s – they actually made a factory 309 MI16 – but it was only available in Europe. The 405 T16’s are rarer still and even they have found their engines into 205’s – 300bhp 205 = a little daft IMHO…

Mine is just a 1.9 8v turbo – converted by Turbo Technics from new back in 1990. Currently running 180-190bhp which is not a huge amount but when you consider that the car only weighs 900kgs – the grin factor is huge!

              Thats no advantage

Sounds like you have a nice pug there, i had a Mi16 but it met a very sticky end

Having spent some time trawling the classifieds, there doesn't seem to be much correlation between mileage and price, which is good as it indicates how well built the S2's are. Not sure how much money I will hvae to budget yet - depends how much I can get for my Pug to be honest. Would probably err towards something at the lower end of the range and use the balance to fix the problems, rather than blow the lot only to find that there is still addtional expense required. Depends what is out there at the time. Are there any shows or meets on soon which I could attend? Bank holiday is no good though as I'm off to the 'ring again
