Alistair, tyres are currently 245/40/17 Front and 235/40/17 rear??!!
Change them ASAP as they are too wide unless OEM dunlop 8000. They were a narrow tyre and more modern tyres are too wide.
Get 225/45/17 handling will improve and you will not be in danger of the inner tyre edge fouling the suspension. This has happened to RS2 owners. Go out and check the inner tyrewall for damage ASAP.

Ah, ok. Will check first thing in the morning. They are new tyres all round, they obviously didn't know when they went on. Done by the previous owner....
Will let you know. Planning for the 18's soon anyway. Cup 1's or 2's. Which tyre size for them? Thanks.
It's quite hard to make deicisions, the forum is great but there often contradictory opinions.
Cheers

For the standard wheels there is no contradiction. Its a safety issue. Many threads over at RS246 forum stating in detail the issue.
With suspension you will get differing views but few start from a standard set up in as good condition as you will have. So a worn suspension will feel better with any upgrade IMHO.
Having read a lot over the past few years the RS2 is well set up and many say its the best stock suspension audi produced.
For what its worth the order I would replace/upgrade would be
1 topmounts
2 front bushes
3 dampers
4 springs
If you go with 18'' wheels I would do that first and see if that gives you the appearance you want before lowering springs. Not all, but a significant minority have found the ride quality deterioates without a great enough handling improvement.
There is no one right answer for all but differing views are all part of the 'forum experience'
Alastair, thanks. You have just made things very clear. Wheels first it is then we'll go from there. I have saved your comments. Thanks for all you time
