    Hello there

Hello all. Im not a current s2 owner but am starting to get the bug. I have a mk1 golf gti which is undergoing a full restoration at the moment and will eventually be fitted with a G60 engine. In the meantime im driving a Corrado G60 which is nice but a bit too heavy. A friend who works for Audi mentioned the S2 to me as he knew i was looking for an older car which still had all the performance and luxury of a newer car but wasnt going to plummet in value. Up until now i have been looking at sierra cosworths, s1 rs turbos, BMW M3`s (E30 shape), etc etc but most of the examples i have been looking at have been messed with too much. Im now really interested in the S2 which looks to be exactly what im after. If i decide to buy one what sort of price can i expect to pay. Im after the latest model (is it 1996 they stopped making them?) preferrably low milage and full service history and everything in good working order. Im not sure about colour, silver or black i suppose, and must have leather interior with the full electrics pack and excellent panels and paint with no rust. Is there a buyers guide on this site? Sorry for asking i should have a good look but im working offshore and dont have an awfull lot of time on the pc. Any help appreciated.

    Hello Dani,

There is a buyers guide on S2 Central - www.s2central.net. This will also show you hints and tips as what to look out for etc.

If your after a Standard 95 - 96 S2 ABY with low millage and FSH you can expect to pay as much as £5000 + for it.

    Depending on condition etc.

But on another note, low millage and FSH is not always such a good thing. For example most people on here service there cars themselves, and extremely well at that. Probably better that any garage or Main Dealer.

Also thees engine are pretty dam solid. Some people here have reached 200K miles and they are still going strong.

    Anyway, just my thoughts.

Good luck anyway and welcome to the forum.

      Welcome

If you want a car that feels new then you definitely dont want a Cossie!
I had a 4x4 Saph, and they feel like you step into a timewarp back to the 80s everytime you see the interior (apart from the gorgeous Recaros of course lol)
The S2 has the same performance (and just as much scope for tuning too, if not more for less money come to think of it) but doesnt feel half as dated even though most are well over 10 years old themselves!

Get a good S2 and you wont go far wrong

You have made the right choice. Bog standard late ABY cars do exist but they are becoming fewer and fewer. If you want a nice one, you need to be looking to spend between £5 - £7k. Keep your eyes on here, pistonheads and autotrader. Don't be put off by mileage and buy on condition, service history main dealer and independent are good. If the car does NOT have a folder full of bills then something is wrong. These cars do need looking after and IMHO you cannot scrimp and do them on a budget.

        Good luck

        Cheers,

        Steve.

Thanks for the replies so far. I agree that the mileage and service history are not crucial but obviously would be preferrable, however like you say for an enthusiast its a labour of love, not something to be rushed for an early finish as in a garage. I would carry out all the work myself and get a strange satisfaction from it (as im sure lots of you can sympathise with ). My G60 is in need of a major service and i have just managed to get together a rebuild kit for the supercharger which will be taken care of when im home next. Once the paintwork is sorted on it ill advertise it whilst keeping my eye out for an S2. Ill be looking to get one in the new year sometime and ill wait until the right one comes along as im in no rush. Could someone tell me what colours they were made in and numbers etc or tell me where this information is held. I know there is silver, black, dark green, red, dark blue, white ,are there any others? I quite like the cream leather interior but im not keen on the wood look trim, did they only produce the cream leather with certain colours? and was the wood trim an extra option or something?. I think my ideal model would be black, silver or dark blue (if i went for dark blue id like cream leather) any help appreciated, cheers. One last thing, are they bloody quick? or just quick?
