Is it a KV or NG or 7A engine - what does the VIN sticker or the log book say ?

1st bit of advice - don't waste your money on the 5x112 hub conversion unless there is a set of wheels you just can't refuse in that fitment. You should have lots of sexy and unusual choices at 4x108 if you are clever. You might need some custom help getting a big brake conversion on that setup but without the turbo engine that ain't a big worry.

Being an old bloke myself I don't like them to be tooo low but if thats yer thang then there are various options of lowered spring kits and even exotic coilover fully adjustable setups - reckon on it costing you the value of the car though !

With some subtle touches, the odd cast-off parts from an S2 to give you sports suspension at 2nd hand prices and cosmetic / functional tweaks like updated (and HID) lights you could really give that car some more visual appeal and make it look younger than what it is.

Depends what department your desire for modifications lies - looks, handling, power, brakes or whatever... You'd be wise to take some time to learn what you have and the options in front of you before doing things like dashing off to the hub conversion shop for starters. Enjoy the car as it is for a while and guage what you think it needs to please you more - assuming its mechanically sound for starters.

    woo big post!!

The VIN number gives me no idea what the engine code is lol, not sure its wise posting tht sorta stuff across a public forum either? correct me if im wrong lol.

For the Wheels could you shed some light on where i may b able to find any in this fitment, ive looked around ebay and nothing but stock alloys come up =\ As for the lowness, im not fussed, i had a polo b4 this which was dropped around 80mm, which was a pain in the **** at times. so mayb not so low, but ive noticed i can pull off bigger wheels on the Audi lol

the value of the car, i didnt pay much for it , ive seen a few on pistonheads goin for around the 1.2k mark, but it wasnt that much lol. as for looks, i really like the S2 front ends, im guessing due to the bonnet being differnt and stuff its a big job to convert the front?

Modding wise, im not rly looking 4 more power(well i say that, but its only because of insurance wud be silly atm) so its just looks for now im after, decent set of alloys, nice ride height, then interior!

mechanicly it doesnt seem 2 bad, i just need to do the brake pads n bleed the system as they r shocking, it had a service by my boss b4 i got it but i might just give it another to be on the safe side lol and a good clean inside and out, damm thing is a right tip inside =\

OK - I meant the VIN plate or sticker that is on the car - it will tell you the engine code - also in the logbook (V5). Doubt you'll see it on the engine unless really lucky.

The VIN sticker will be on the service book if you still have it. If the only thing you can find is the VIN then send it me privately and I can inquire on the cars history thru some dealer contacts on this forum. I've been around here a while - you can trust me - I'm not into cloning cars... But don't post it on the open forum.

Anyway - yes - figured power mods would be silly for a wee lad like yourself

The sports suspension option (where fitted) on these CQs reduces ride height by approx 40mm but there is only one official combination of spring and damper that was used on the S2 Coupe (well two if you include aircon variants). Whatever - you could get lucky on eBay with suitable springs and nicely uprated gas dampers are available for OK money - more money if you want adjustability.

You might also get in the queue at eBay for S2 bumpers, bonnets, interior and lights - they are straight bolt on as you suspect. It is shocking how often that damaged and/or gravely ill S2s end up on eBay as parts so with patience and some cash you can get there.

As for brakes - I'd need to hit the books to be sure, but you may not have the biggest factory fitted brakes available on that 4x108 setup. I can't remember what they had on a G-plater like that. Best bolt on spec for you is the twin-pot Girling G60 caliper at the front - you may already have it - and 276x25 vented discs. I can dig up part numbers if you like. Get original pads such as made by Pagid - very good and hard wearing I find.

As for wheels - a guy on here called Pembo rallies his S2 conversion from a CQ not unlike yours - he kept the 4x108 wheels (big surpirise to me) but he says there is much better choice of motorsport wheels that fit various Fords, Metros and other rally cars - these can be had on eBay for little money... Usually white and in need of refurbishment to a more suitable colour. True you wont easily find RS2/4/6 replica wheels in 4x108 but they are well overdone these days.

      Sorry for long post !

Meant to say - that 2-pot Girling G60 caliper is easily sourced - common fitment on many Coupes and S2 - often discarded by S2 owners going to bigger brakes.

After a quick look at parts system I think your 1990 car (KV or NG) will have a single pot front caliper running 256x22 or 280x22 discs. A G60 upgrade will be great for you and good value too.

If you have the 20V engine (7A) then you should be on the G60 already - same brakes as S2 left the factory except for different disc variant at 4x108 firment.

Yeah ford rims fit straight on, but might need to get different rings that sit in the back of the wheel (you will see them if you look at the middle of the back of the rim) for the front wheels as I had to change them on mine. Some people do just do without them.

s2 brakes make a good choice compared to standard, and ebay can be used to source lowering springs easily.
