    Newbie interested in the S2

    Hi guys

My BMW Z3M Coupe will be gone soon so I am looking at replacing it with something cheaper, interesting with good residuals until I complete my house move/refurb in about 6 months. I really like the look of the S2 and it is one of the cars that fits the bill. I have done a search and founf a buying guide etc. What I wanted to know is what forum members consider to be the budget to set to get a decent, not mint, s2? I know this is subjective but for example when I bought a BMW E30 M3 in 2003 the general consensus was that a prospective owner should spend £7k plus to get a good one.

    Any help/guidance appreciated!

How much are you looking to spend on buying one????? That really is the key as to potential running costs and also what has/hasn't been done to the car. I would prefer to buy one from a forum member and knowing a lot more about it's history than just buying one from autotrader or ebay.

Probably around 4-5k. The less the better though as my house project needs more attention!

For that price if you did not mind travelling you could get quite a nice s2 with the odd upgrade etc. Owen on audifans (one of the mods) is selling his s2 which looks mint but is slightly more than 5k.

I totally agree. £4-5K for a good one. £5- 6K for a very well looked after one.

They are not cheap cars to run, but worth every penny. Unless you are doing a lot of miles you should be okay. Its the petrol that is really going to cost you at something around 22 - 24mpg.

          Oh and

          Cheers,

          Steve.

I don't keep a track of MPG. If you were to ask me what MPG any of my cars did I would not be able to tell you! I know how much I can get out of a tank full (depending on how heavy my right peg has been) but never sit down and work out MPG.

The car will not do a great deal of mileage as I only work 3 miles from my home and it will not be used everyday.

Really have to set a upper limit otherwise I will get carried away and don't mention upgrades...thats a bit of a habit too.

And thanks for the welcome Steve.

I have never seen one of these up close - is there any forum member in the Bedfordshire area, I'm in Luton, who would be willing to let me have a closer look at their car?

If you are in no immediate rush, I am in Kettering and you are more than welcome to have a look at my Avant.
Only thing is, its got a boost problem which wont be solved for 3 weeks due to cash flow being used to move house!

Owen's car is a lovely example with the subtle and effective additions of HID's and larger brakes, one of the nicest I've seen. I'm sure he's pretty gutted he's selling it
