New RS2 Owner - Independent RS2 Specialist in / near London?

    hello

i've had my RS2 a couple of weeks now (1995, silver w/black leather & carbon, 85k miles, RHD, fabulous condition) and am just sorting those last few niggles.

    so...

can anybody recommend an RS2 specialist in or near central London? have the following things that need looking at and i'm assuming they're a bit complex for me to tackle myself:

brakes binding - assume it's the usual alloy / steel corrosion

passenger electric window not working, checked / changed switch, motor & relay so must be wiring somewhere

play in the steering wheel where it meets the column, feels like a bush near the wheel itself as the steering feels fine

the on-boost performance also feels like it "pulses" slightly as the revs rise, although still pulling very strongly. i haven't had a turbo before and my other car is a Benz 500E (built on the same production line before the RS2 as the real anoraks will know...) so maybe this is normal for these cars and i've just been spoilt by the linear power delivery of my V8?

anyway, i'd be much happier taking it to somebody who knows these cars inside out and just to know it's perfect as i'm planning on keeping it for a while.

    thanks
    andy

Sounds like you've got my personal fav spec on the RS2, that polar silver always looks great

Personally, I think you could easily save a ton of money getting some of those sorted yourself and using the combined knowledge of this place!

If you want a specialist nr London, then to the west is 'The Autopool' nr Iver in Bucks and they are well respected, have seen plenty of S/RS models so confident you'd get a good result there. MRC are also a quick sprint up the M40 to Banbury, again well recommended and a quick custom remap while you are their will free up a few extra horses to play with too

However, the corrosion issue on the RS2 calipers is well known and sure there is a BTDT on sorting them out on here.
The steering one is odd, is it play in the dead centre position? could be something worn but not many bushes really so would guess either a small wind in of the bolt on the rack to reduce the play, something loose on the steering rod inner ends or a tracking issue. well worth checking that out visually first though as it might be obvious.

Pulsing sounds like a boost prob, likely a boost leak. Again a visual inspection of the intake path and the vac hoses might yield a result. Can you hear hissing on making boost? If the hoses are original then chances are that one or more have a split or hole in them resulting in the slight hesitation.

Use the search function on here and you'll probably find many initial pointers and if you're handy with a spanner etc then you can really save £££££

Welcome Andy... Nobody could describe the power delivery of the RS2 as linear... No way - not with how Porsche programmed it anyway - LOL. When healthy you get that slight delay when you nail the loud pedal from low revs before that kick in your back when the turbo is finally permitted to flow some decent amount of air !

Dave's recommendation is a good one. There aren't many specialists who you can really trust with their claims of great knowledge and experience on the S2/RS2 so it pays to be careful. Even for the non mechanically minded folk, it is worth reading up on technical problems on sites like this, so you can at least have a meaningful chat with a mechanic and be able to spot when he is talking bawlox or just wanting to string things into a larger amount of money for no good reason.

        Hi,

I bought my RS2 in Feb and via a recommendation from a member of RS246 (this site is just as good or better IMO by the way!) to try Andover Car Service. Together we agreed a plan of action on my car and only the parts that need replacing have been replaced. They have extensive Audi experience as well as regular customers with RS2s.

I highly recommend them and together with ordering parts from VAG.com, I have not only improved my car but have saved money too.

I am no mechanic but I do know that the intercooler sits very closely to the front bumper and one of the belts. If it has taken a knock at the front and the intercooler has a hole in it, then this will cause loss of pressure. I am experiencing this at the moment (it pulses on and off when cold and at constant revs in third/fourth) and my car is booked in next week to see if we can weld the hole I have in mine. Another customer has also had something similar.

There could also be leaks in other areas but maybe try that first.

MRC offer a check over for £45 which sounds great for a pressure check of the system and I may well go for this later on once the rest of my car is sorted.

Next week ACS are replacing the Diverter Valve, N75 wastegate frequency valve and Lambda sensor too as these I am told werent part of the standard service replacement items at main dealers and all relate to performance.

I hope this has helped. Google ACS and speak with Roger, mention my name (Simon; green RS2!). Andover can be accessed from Waterloo and they have space to store cars for customers. I now live in Dorset but I wouldnt go anywhere else.

Private message me if you want my mobile no!

        Cheers and good luck!
