Greetings from Caracas-Venezuela: 0.025 pounds per litre of fuel (petrol) !!!!!!!

Hello guys! It´s a real pleassure for me to participate in this Forum after becoming the very proud owner of a wonderfull ´94 S2 ABY with only 49.400 Km (almost 31 K Mililes). The only problem is, and thanks to it I was able to buy this beauty, it lost a rod bearing on cylinder #4. Unfortunately the car fell in hands of some kind of low level mechanics that did some very stupid things, such as unscrewing the knock sensors and thorwing them over the 6 speed tranny, that ended (thank God!) with a blown head gasket that FINALLY stoped the poor engine. After dismantling I´ve found that the other rod bearings where OK (gonna change all of them anyway) and the mains are just perfect. I´m so surprised that all the other bearings are ok since they were working with no oil pressure at all, since all that was left of the bearings was about as thick as a tin foil. Right now I´m thinking on how far I want to push this motor, or if I´m just gonna leave it stock for a while. I am absolutely delighted with this excellent piece of german engineering!!!!!!!! See ya around!!!

P.S: Yes, that´s the REAL price of gas down here!!!!!!

, to the forum. Do you know which country your car was originally imported to? Looks like a tidy example, and with fuel at that price you should have the funds lavish attention on your car.

    1992 C4 2.8 Avant quattro
    1994 MTM RS2.

Wow - thats a rare machine in South America and probably you have the one with lowest mileage... Welcome to the Forum - just don't sicken us too much about those fuel prices... I remember watching a TV program about Venezuala earlier this year which quoted prices in US dollars and when I did the math I thought it must have been a mistake... Quite incredible - enjoy those prices while you can - it can't last forever - even in Caracus !

$0.12 a gallon is mad. At that price I could afford to drive my car.

Low gas prices....but everything else is very expensive!!

Thanks for the welcome! I won´t brag about this anymore since everything else costs about twice or three times as much as it does in the UK or US!
The car was originally imported directly from Ingolstadt by VW Venezuela, represented then by "Automotriz TecnoAlemana S.A.". I have all the original receipts, ownner´s manual, additional keys, etc, and I´m sure there are a couple others running around. It visited the dealer in mid 1998 to get a new clutch set with only 13K miles and I guess that after that it was taken elsewhere for services. Besides the knock sensors, they had also pulled the thermostat, and many bolts and stuff were different. They tried to pry the valve cover open(and didn´t know how to disassemble it!) and did the same thing trying to change the cam pulley seal. I´ve been horrorized with all this, but thank goodness everything else looks pretty good.
Being in an oil rich country, and studying in california, had led me to american musclecars and I owened 3 5.7 ltr Camaros stick shifts running around 350 HP´s, but don´t worry, I won´t compare poop with chocolate!!! This car is just too much, is the perfect machine for a nutie like me. By the way, one of my "other" toys are a 2003 KTM 450 4 stroke and a 1992 KTM 300 2 stroke (about 60 HP and around 100 Kilograms!!) see ya around!!!!!
