    hi

    hi everyone,

thought i would join up and get involved in the web site and hopefully also get some advice. i thinking about purchasing a audi S2 but have little knowledge of the car, i have done some background reading over the last couple of days (this has just made me want one even more!) but though here may be the best place to find other like minded people and get to know more about the cars.

i'm currently only 23 but have 4 years no claims so i think insurance shouldn't be to much of a problem on the car, however, i now have to find the car i want. i would like to get a standard one with the lowest miles possible as i would like to work towards showing the car ( i'm a keen detailer). i have a budget of around £5000 to buy the car, is that a realistic budget?

any advice about the car or things to look out for would be gratefully appreciated and i look forward to getting to know everyone a bit better.

    thanks

    Gareth

Hello and from a fellow leeds member!
insurance wise,i'm 23 also with 4 years ncd and insurance is'nt too much of an issue for me.
your budget sounds more than enough for a good example,i'm sure you'll find more than enough helpfull info on here to get you on the right track to finding your ideal car
one question though coupe or avant?
    It's a love/hate relationship with the S2,i love it,it hates me

to the forum,i'm another from Leeds too.... There is a nice couple for sale in the for sale section. Your budget is plenty for a good one. On these cars the milage dosen't really affect them when they have been looked after. Mine is on 160k and pulls like a good un, just ask Add

Good luck in finding a car. You'll have to go to one of are Leeds meet. We haven't arranged another yet but keep an eye out for them.
Just some finishing touches to do now

        Welcome to the forum.

Its always worth shopping around when buying insurance on these cars.

£5k should be more then enough. With low millage do you mean something like sub 50k? Or sub 100k?

There is usually a few for sale on here and on piston heads.

Hope you find a nice one.

P.s. when spending that sort of money on an s2, i would defo post the link up here first to see if anyone knows the car or can give you more advice.

Most s2's are going for ~£3k atm although they tend to be a bit rough.

hi, thanks for the replies. i'm thinking about a coupe, with no or as little mods as possible, in terms of mileage i would like it to be sub 100k.

i have found one on piston heads http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1081197.htm if anyones knows the car?

if i was to look at one how would i know if the turbo was on it was out? or how much is one to replace.

what else are the main things to look out for when buying one.

          cheers

The s2 k24 turbo rarely fails and second hand ones go for as little as £50 so that's not something to worry about..

IMO that car is very over priced, even though it has low millage and good paint etc its not worth 5 grand i bought a red 3b for £1800 about 2 years ago, it needed about £800 worth of parts but then it was mint again, just to give you an realistic idea..

Like said above, millage is nothing to worry about, these engines are very strong.

            Good luck

thanks for the advice, what would you say the car would roughly be worth? is it even worth going for a look at that price or should i see if he would move on the price first?

It's worth a look but the price is way steep for a 3b,i'd say you'd want to pay well over a grand less if it is what it seems, but that's just my 10p

It's worth being a little bit patient IMO see what comes up,if i had your money i would be looking for a late model aby, preferably from a fellow entusiast who knows the car, that way any niggles should have been fixed as well as the common problems.
