    S2-Greece

    Hello all from Greece!

I have been reading you a long time! Great work for a great car guys!
I study mechanical engineering here and recently i got much tools and a place to start my project!

I don't have an Audi S2 (..yet) but i plan to buy one pretty soon.
The car i am looking to buy is an Audi Coupe 1991 (pre facelift) non Quattro.
    I have some questions though.

Do the Quattro and Coupe share the same floor? If i buy the FWD, can i mod it to awd without cutting anything?
If i buy it and swap it with the ABY engine, can i use the car using only the front differential?
Is there any .pdf Service Manual or something like that for the ABY engine?

    Nice to meet you

    Hello kai kalispera!

you are basically asking the same question that all people from greece have that wanted to have that type of car. Can the car be moded to become a quattro.
The only definite answer for that is that some late 1994 avants had the possibility to become quattros and that is how some of the RS2 were made in Greece. However im not aware if the coupe can have the same without modifying the chassis to accomodate the rear suspension and gas tank.

      Kalispera A80Avant!!!

I haven't seen any S2 in Greece. They were too expensive in here that time so people with that amount of money were buying slow Mercedes and BMWs.. lol !

Having the space and the right tools i am thinking of starting the project if i ... find the car! lol

I need a completely guide in pdf so i can learn a lot of things about this piece of beauty!

      Where do you live A80Avant?

Would it not be comparatively easier to buy a rough S2 abroad and import it, rather than try to make one up out of a FWD car?

Or maybe I am not aware of some overiding restriction on this suggestion that makes it a non runner?

          Welcome and kind regards.

The B4 (Avant & Saloon) chassis is apparently generic enough to make it possible to upgrade from FWD to 4WD.

That said... I agree it would be lots less hassle to import an S2/RS2 from elsewhere in Europe - unless there is some horrible complicated legislation in Greece - but then if it was imported as ordinary Coupe quattro would that be so bad - does some clerk check engine numbers and such against an official database of permitted cars ?

there is a horrible inport tax in greece for older cars. Apparently even if you pay 2000GBP for a car, you have to pay something like 12000GBP+ to import it. UNLESS you work in europe in which case you can import a car from the country you work at (for at least 2 years) and then you dont pay any import tax so long as you dont sell the car for the next 6 years

                    Thank you S2Central!

I will have to pay a lot of taxes in order to place license plates on the car to drive it legally if i import it. Not worth it at all!

So according to your says, i have to search for a B4 platform Coupe, which means from 1992 and after? Do i have to cut anything from the Coupe's floor to make room for the rear differential?
I can't find pictures to see the differences between the B3 and B4 floors and understand what's going on there.

i think the coupe came with B3 spec chassis only. The B4 was only introduced for sedan and avant. So you'd probably need to cut away to make room for the diff

As i can see from the ETKA, ABY was also fitted in the 1995 Coupe.
So i think i can run ABY FWD in any Coupe, right?

no, ABY only went with the CGR/CRB gearbox which only were produced as quattros

i think there could be a fwd gearbox that you can run with a 2.2lit. it has been done before, but i cannot remember which one it is.
