    Newbie from Oxford

Hello all, I've been loitering around for a few days now, just having a read of members threads and projects so thought I'd better introduce myself!

So, I'm Rich.. I'm actually still trying to get over the whole 'new(ish) car for old car' stigma in my head..

I'm currently the proud owner of a Passat PD130 load lugger with a few mods

but I've recently got this crazy idea in my head that changing to a 2.2T would be a great idea and try as I might I can't shake it, not least perhaps that try as I might I just cannot get excited driving a TDi - even with a map..

So.. I have a few questions for those more experienced in all things S2 than me..

I'm a little concerned about using an Avant as a daily, but dont have the option of buying a run around really.. I need to be able to use it day in day out and most of the examples I've seen that I can afford have 130k +
Most people I've spoken to say the in line 5 is very strong, but as you can imagine, I dont really fancy parting ways with £4000 + only to have to spend a fortune on rebuilds etc..
    Any thoughts?

And finally (cheeky) is there anyone near or in the Oxford area that would be willing to take me out in thiers (not for a test drive of course) just to see what they're like?

Hi Rich - I remember you from ukPassats I think. I use mine daily and it's been ok. The only problem you'll have is keeping on top of repairs to silly little things, like hoses, bushes etc. Yeah the engine is strong as you like, but at the age of the average s2, anything made of rubber will be well on it's way to perishing.

If you get one with new hoses/bushings etc you should be fine.

I'm not in Oxford (northampton instead) but if ever you're near me I'll take you out.

For 4K plus a little bit you should be able to find something that's had most troublesome components replaced. Forget mileage when buying an S2, buy on strength of overall condition. Often a higher mileage car will have had a vast amount of money spent on bushes, senders, hoses ect, whereas something with half the mileage maybe on the verge of needed a load of new parts. Looked after correctly and left unmolested they should go on forever, many of us on here have cars that have covered well in excess of 200K Miles. If you want to run it as a relativity economical daily driver avoid modding the engine beyond what can be offered by a decent remap, S2Central on here is the chap to speak to about this.

Welcome, plenty of people on here use S2's as a daily car, me included!
Mileage isnt an issue atall on them as long as they are cared for properly, which of course is no different from any other car.
I am about an hour and half from Oxford, you would be more than welcome to come and have a look round and go for some drives

i know Ant. think he started ukpassats. not seen him for a bit though

the 5 pot is strong. no doubting that. as strong as a golf 16v.

maybe a bigger turbo on the tdi?

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, Dest I saw the advert for yours and I've been looking at it pretty much everyday for the last 2 weeks... actually very tempted and I noticed you were looking for something more economical for work? how does 55mpg 170 bhp and 260lbft sound to you
