    quattro v6

Hi all figured i should introduce myself and my car.

Im Brent 23 from Barnsley South Yorkshire.

At the moment i own an audi 80 2.8v6 quattro, Rover 200 bubble with 2.0 turbo conversion as my daily driver and a Suzuki GS500.

Will put up some pics when i get a photobucket account set up.

So far to get the quattro back on the road ive replaced all discs and pads added sum 18's and a set of 35mm lowereing springs changed the oil and oil filter and added a new k+n air filter. Then left it running on the drive for the heater matrix to blow.lol My Bad. So in the process of replaceing that. Was wondering if this is defo a dash out job or if there is a way round it?
Bought the car as a non-runner from my dad for 100 quid with the intension of making an s2 saloon replica. Any details on the work involved in a conversion would be of much help....
Oh and also had a full re-paint on it. There maybe some stuff i missed but thats most of it.

    Cheers for any help given.

Hi and to the forum. It's deffo a dash out job i had to do it on mine just before christmas but not as bad as you'd think really. As long as you look at the "how to's" you'll be fine I put a genuine matrix in as i didn't fancy doing it again in a year or so.

Will you be going to the elsecar meet? I'll be there this year.
Just some finishing touches to do now

Saloon conversion needs complete engine and loom with ancillaries and a few mountings to be welded into the engine bay. Then you'll need better brakes, S2 suspension at a minimum and various other bits. Best bet IMO is to buy a breaker Avant with good running gear and swap it all over...

That's different but the s2 turbo is more my thing although i love the sound of the v engines.

Oh also while i'm thinking about the conversion what sort of money am i looking at for to increase power to say 350bhp? I would probably want more power later on but would like to do things in stages i think the ultimate goal would be 550bhp but in a fair few years but not sure on the way to go about it. If i'm correct qs tuning and some others do the power upgrades in stages?

Keep it stock to begin with, it'll be plenty fast enough till you sort the chassis and brakes. If you put everything else up to a standard for high horsepower then you'll see 300 from a stock engine with a remap.

I beg to differ, stock is fast for a few minutes but you soon get bored of that.
If your going for medium power like 500 or so then you may as well make everything future prof from the start, that will save ripping it all apart again.
If you have time and money it can be quite fun.
Took me about a year to do my engine build but i had another s2 and an rs2 to play with in the mean time so there was no rush.

If you get an engine then add new rods, clutch, bearings all round as well as new valve gear if needed and have it all balanced and the head work done then your set up for 500hp either way and its not to much more expensive.
You can then stick to something like RS2 turbo, Exhaust manifold and Intercooler for a while and upgrade from there at a later stage.

If you just buy an engine and bung it in and throw the RS2 parts at it your going to need to pull it apart again anyway to make it safe for 500+ so may as well do it right from the start...

                    Just my 2 cents

With the above as well as good brakes and a decent suspension your looking at about £4k if your patient and buy up the bargains that come on here.

Its also worth noting that 400hp is easy to achieve but if you want 500 or 550 you have to dig a little deeper as you also need better flowing parts not to mention a bigger turbo.

Or you can do what Andy did and simulate more power by pulling out weight. Thats got to be the cheapest way by far!

I'd be bored of the stock 220/230bhp in the saloon straight away due to the weight difference between that and my rover with turbo conversion running 220bhp and been stripped.

This will be a very long term project just looking for advice at this time as im going to change my daily to the audi running standard v6 until ive done the stuff to the rover i have planned like bigger turbo and uprated internals. Also have full brakes and suspension for that waiting to fit. This will then be daily on low boost until i complete the audi to s2 or just buy an s2 still not sure. Then after i complete that the rover will have boost turned up then be used for track only.

I've not got bored in 6 years' ownership, it's about driving what you've got as well as you can. All the bolt on stuff on my car is with low 400s in mind, as a bonus the stock engine works better too.

                          Welcome Brent!

I think now is a good time to say that power output is just numbers - it's the way it performs that matters ...but having more is always nice
