    Hello there!

    Hi all,

Being a previous owner of an Audi coupe many years ago(sadly not an S2, to my shame I never knew they existed until recently ), and given that its the only car I ever owned that I actually regretted getting rid of, i've recently had a touch of nostalgia and got a hankering for another one. Since i disovered the existence of the S2 I naturally now want one!

I'm looking up all the info i can find on them as well as checking out all the ads i can find, but theres one bit of info i cant find anywhere so far that is pretty relevant to me as i currently live in Ireland. Does anyone have any info on what the Co2 emissions are on the S2 coupe? If i do go ahead and buy one i will need this to import it to Ireland(for the outrageous and actually illegal VRT system).

    Cheers

You'll end up paying the price of the car in VRT, I didn't think they would accept the emissions info for an older car?? Am I wrong?

You are not wrong. VRT will be charged at 36% of OMS (open market selling price) Emmisions dont come into the equation.

The quattros prices are not listed, they have to consult Roslare to get an evaluation on your car. I had to wait a day to get a price, and paid by bank draft. Despite being imported 3 years apart, my s2 coupe was charged VRT €1500 in 2007 , and my avant encoured a €1530 VRT.

Payment has to be by bank draft, cheque or credit card, in your name. No third party cheques or cash. You will need your RSI (PPS number) also.

Then bring the V5 with you and the VRT4 form
Sorry, the page you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed or is temporarily unavailable.

      Hope that helps.

If you have a UK address, you can own it for 6 months and bring it across with no VRT, as long as you dont sell it for 6 months. Or some loop hole like that.
But yea the VRT is illegal, and Ireland get fined every year for it by the EU. Unfortunately the fine isnt big enough and the VRT taken in well more than covers the fine.

Cheers lads. I was figuring they would charge the maximum 36% if i couldnt find Co2 figures, so i guess it will depend on what they value the car at. I suppose 1500 isnt too bad really, as long as they dont come up with anything mental like 4000!
Unfortunately you can only use the free import thing once after you've owned a car for a year, and i did it when i first moved here. Still, i suppose if i wasnt such a law abiding citizen i could just leave it registered back home

Got another question lads. One of the reasons i was looking at an S2 is that i fancied a car that was approaching,or could be considered already, a classic, but one that could be used every day without having to hide it away from the world(after all they're meant to be driven right). Given Audi's rep for bomb proof reliability and build quality, the S2 seemed on the face of it to fit the bill nicely. However i noticed elswhere on this forum people talking about needing to spend between 1-2k a year on parts alone! That doesnt strike me as "Audi-ish" reliability, rather extremeley unreliable. I realise that these are old cars now but i expected better than that.
So, i guess i'm asking what is the general concensus on S2 reliability, can they be used as everyday cars or do they need to be mollycoddled?
