From what Ive read, the V8 S4 and S6 are pretty boring

S2 is more Mk 2 Golf, and S4 B5 is more Mk IV Golf, if that helps?

My guess is the B5 might just be the one for you, but only my ill informed guesstimate.

Having said that all quick / modifiable cars are money pits, but enjoyable some of the time when they work.

I've had various quick cars, that have varied massively in ownership costs and that's with none of them requiring major repair work.

Best of the bunch was an Impreza WRX PPP that I shouldn't have sold and that's what I think I'm trying to get back to, quick and 4wd but German! All round the best car I've owned as far as a combination of speed/practicality/running costs, although 90% of people I know hated the look of it for some reason

If I'd made up my mind sooner, something list Dest's S2 would have been ideal I think
