    Hi all

Hi all, I am possible buying a S2 3b next week which is in need in some tlc.
The car is a 1991 S2 3b in red with full black heated leather, electric sunroof, 18"RS4 wheels, H&R lowering shocks and springs. Its got 102k on the clock and a huge portfolio with it. The car is around the 350bhp mark and the engine has been built to produce around the 500bhp mark. Its got cat cams, forged rods and pistons, lightend and balanced crank, port and polished head, RS2 hybrid turbo and some more modification under the bonnet. Now the tlc part the car doesnt run correctly and has been stood for around 10months. The running issue is it will start and idle perfectly and rev up nicely to, but if you hold the revs at say 3k it sounds like its hesitating somewhat. Also if you rev the car up to 3k and over and let of it will stall. Now the owner says when it was last on the road it wouldnt boost correctly it would go into limp home mode. He says it could possible be a sensor or mapping??!! Some other problems are that the battery is completly ******ed easy fix. The oil pressure gauge will shoot of the scale once started/running and the oil pressure light will flash on and off whilst the car is running (note no funny noises, smoke, breathing etc) The engine sounds good. And then there are other relatively easy fixes.

    Now my question is firstly
How much would you expect to pay for the car in the above condition?
    Secondenly
How much would the car be worth with all the above sorted and running mint?

    Regards Henry

It would probably be better to tell us what he is asking and then people can discuss if they think it is fair money.
The fault with the oil pressure gauge is because the 8 pin multiplug has come apart in the engine bay.

Starting from a base price of £3k for a 3B...

All good things. Is the leather in good nick? Those things together could add up to £1k.

That's reasonably low for such an early car to have now.

I presume it has the paperwork to back all this up? That'd have cost a lot to do - however it obviously won't add as much to the value as it cost. Could add another grand or more, though.

The S2 isn't a huge fan of standing around, so it might improve a little after doing some miles.

Possibly also a boost leak? Does it have a boost gauge? I'd knock a minimum of £500 off since it's an undiagnosed issue and a risk for you.

These are more minor issues, but an opportunity to bring down the price by a few £100 more.

I'd be looking to pay around £4k - although with up to £1k variance... you're gonna have to use your judgement on the running issues vs. positive mods.

Could be worth 5 or 6 £k to the right person... but it's a niche vehicle to start with - the mods will boost the value, but only to a further subset of that niche. That doesn't mean it won't get a good resale price, but you might have to wait a while until the right person sees it.

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents... be interesting to see how someone else values it.
