    New S2 Owner

Evening all, thought I would introduce myself as im new to the forum, I'm Andy and hope to join the crew as I will need your help restoring my S2 to its former glory, Im not an Audi noob and can turn my hand to almost anything, just not bodywork & paint so im not afraid of getting stuck in.

I have just fetched my second coupe but first S2 tonight which is Audi Number 3, its a 1993 coupe with an ABY engine 146K miles, I have been looking for a decent one for while but after finding one locally for what seemed cheap I jumped at the chance. It does need a little bit of tidying but seems to be in reasonable order, there was a lack of service history & receipts with it but I think the price reflected that (£2K). Because I got it for less than my budget it leaves me with some spare pennies to spoil it a little.

My first impressions after driving it properly are that is very smooth & torquey, doesnt feel all the fast but my current daily is a B5 A4 with 427HP at about 2 bar of boost so I guess it wouldnt! There are a few little faults with it but nothing I can't fix.

    Bad points

The LCD driver info screen needs replacing.
The speedo facia numbers are peeling off.
The dash keeps telling me the coolant level is low but it isn't!?!
Small blisters on the nearside rear arch.
It seemed to reach 95-100 degrees water temp once I got it home
The Borbet wheels on it are gash and need replacing, I would really like a set of original S2 wheels if anyone has any for sale?

    Good Points

    6 speed box
    Decat stainless exhaust
    Heated seats
    Electric windows front & rear
    Electric sunroof
    Carbon trims
    Quattro cloth seats
    And everything seems to work!!!!!

Don't know what is standard equipment on the S2 so I thought I would just list the bits I liked

    Oh and the noise

Ive parked it up on the drive for now until I can give it good once over to be sure its tip top, I was going to connect the Vag-com but couldn't find the OBD port, can anyone shed some light?

I will upload some pictures once i've given it a good clean to show it at its best.

          Welcome

I've been following your build thread for a while as the engine side seemed pretty similar to mine, including making your own exhaust and killing the engine first time around

Got any pics of the S2?

            Thanks for the welcome guys.

@ Andy, Cool it does seem to get alot of interest that thread but a serious lack of interaction! May be it was something I said!

It was a bit **** losing the bottom end first time around but you live & you learn! Why couldn't it have been something else I forgot to tighten, at least its all well now. The B5 is a brute and drives so well and I use it daily with nearly 5K miles now. It starting to show its potential as it outran a porsche 911 the other week! Im hoping to have another remap session on the dyno soon and im hoping to alleviate the ignition wows under boost and hit 500, the GT30R should be able to do it.

I don't have any pics of the S2 yet but I think its the same colour as yours mate. I'm going to try and resist the urge to go nuts and aim for stupid power from the S2 and just restore it to a good standard, time will tell how that works out.

              Congratulations on the new purchase.

Whats the symbol for coolant you are getting?

What the borbet wheels? I have a spare set of avus 16s I might swap depending on what the borbets are?

                Cheers dude.

I can post pics up tomorrow of the wheels and the coolant warning thingy, the coolant warning seems to come on the minute I turn the key even without the motor running?

Anyone know where the OBD port is hiding?

Just wondering as low washer fluid gives a nice orange fountain pretending to be something serious.

Red coolant warning light is triggered by low coolant (unplug to check) or goosed temperature sensor/wiring, or a real issue of course

You can use a code reader/vag come through the 2x2 connecter in the fusebox

Hi and welcome to s2 ownership.. OBD is in the fuse box accessed from under the bonnet but behind the firewall right hand side. But it's a 2x2 connector (black plug and white plug) not the more modern OBD II connector.

Try unplugging the level sensor on the header tank and see if that sorts it, if not unplug the mfts (multi function temperature sensor) in the bottom of the water manifold under the intake manifold and see if that makes it go away.

Wheels are Borbet C, what size?

                          Thanks for the welcome mouse.

I will try unplugging the various sensors to see it resolves the warning but would this not just maintain the warning if its unplugged? The header tank is most definetly full I checked that before setting off home with it. The temp on the dash was also reading higher than I would expect about 95-100, this seems a little high or is this right, it also might be pointing to a dodgy sensor or something a little more sinister, I will look into this a bit closer as you've suggested.

Ahh OK so my vag com cable wont work on this car, I will look to see if i can find the right one, I think I know where its located now. Thanks guys.

The wheels are 16" 7.5J, am i right to assume there 5x112? Are these wheels desirable as I'm not keen on them.

welcome to the forum. If I remember a few lads have managed to fit an OBD2 connector weather this was on standard management of not I couldnt tell you so your best off doing a search. Good luck with the project and get some day time photos up when you can!

You need the vagcom/obd adapter that goes from modern multipin (iso9141) to older 2x2 style - plenty on eBay and the likes. Welcome by the way.
