    Morning.

Personally I would steer clear, as I like my cars original and as Audi intended. I don't know what your budget is, but there are still some very nice S2's out there if you are prepared to wait.

If provenence is not an issue and you are on a budget then a converted cq could be the way to go.

Either way, we are here to help.

    Cheers,

just wondering if there were any changes to the quattro configuration between the s2 and the NA coupe?

        Hi Dale,

Your going to get answers from opposite ends of the spectrum now....

Steve has perhaps one of the most Mint Original S2's that exists and i own a CQ that i have lovingly converted to ABY.

I would say that my 1990 CQ is probably mechanically better looked after and drives nicer than probably 90% of S2's that exist. And i love it, being originally a Early B3 shell its lighter and doesnt require Cats to get through and MOT, both bonuses of a converted car.

I guess my point is that anyone that puts in the effort to convert a car to S2 spec from a CQ is likely to be a pretty good mechanic and will have looked after the car, and is going to be a better buy than a used and abused example. But it will never truely be an S2, and will never truly (unless exceptional) be worth s2 money!

3B S2 and CQ 4WD systems are virtually identical. ABY is obviously 6speed and Prop, GB mounts subframe are slightly different to accommodate it. ABY has Dual Mass Flywheel.

so by the looks of things its a pretty safe change there will always be things that need tidying up! ill go and have another look! pre 92 is always a bonus non ac as well! my only major concern was the 4wd system and suspension but as you said looks like its closely shared! would love to pick up a late aby but at the moment i cant stretch to it!

Oh, and check the hubs!! There are no major differences other than the s2's have 5x112 bolt pattern and the CQ's have 4x108. But its a bonus if you get 5x112 as it will allow you to cheaply fit Porsche brakes (standard brakes are pants!!)

yer its 5x112 first thing i checked! does seem like its been done properly with most parts been changed to s2 variants! might be worth buying just as a toy going up this weekend so if all is well ill drive her home!
