    About me

    Hello,

Just a quick bit about me, I have always owned Audi's and in my opinion there isn't a better car out there. Currently I am running a A4 2.5 TDI sport and am building a 2.2 turbo using an 1.8 8v 1988 80 quattro and a MC2 engine from a 200 turbo. The build is causing some head aches (but thats what keeps the interest), So after talking to LCSmith he suggested I signed up to the forum.

I'm going to be using an MC II engine in a 90Q, I really don't like design of the standard cast manifold so plan on making my own out of thick wall black steel. Have you gotten round the waste gate fouling the off side tie rod issue? I suppose what I mean is have you got the engine into the 80 shell yet.

When I did this (many years ago ) I got round the waste gate hitting the track rod
by cutting the track rod and rotating it a bit just before one of the bends in it.
To join it back together I tapped it M14 and screwed it together with some threaded bar.
After it was adjusted to the correct angle I then welded it up so it could not move,
        worked a treat.

cheers for the info, I am still waiting on the engine mounts cut from another type89 (1.8 has mounts on subframe) to be delivered, so I havent offered the engine up yet but I don't see the track rod fouling being an issue, I am not shy with fabricating/modifing things. Also it was only when i took the 4cyl out that i relised the flywheel was different! and the mc2 is out of an auto so there was no flywheel! looking like its not that easy to come by a flywheel! anyone know what flywheels from other engines will fit?

            Cheers

I'd have thought an MB ur quattro one is the same, the engines are virtually identical. You'll have to cut and sleeve/weld the offside tie rod as described by Jo above if using the standard exhaust manifold.
