    Jap-veteran here... with S2 Avant

    Hi everyone,

I've just picked up my S2 Avant. I'm totally new to the German world, my previous cars have included a Civic Type R, Accord Type R, Nissan 200sx s14a, an impreza STi Prodrive and finally a 430bhp Mitsubishi GTO twin-turbo. Yup, definitely a Japanese flavoured theme there.

My S2 has a RS2 Turbo and manifold, induction kit, milteck exhaust and a remap, porsche callipers, genuine RS4 alloys, S8 discs and uprated pads. The previous owner reckons it was hitting about 360bhp but I don't have the foggiest(?)

If anyone can shed some light on that I'd appreciate it. It will be Rolling roaded soon enough anyway.

Being a long-time jap enthusiast I'm not overly clued up on the Audi's, (although I can probably tell you most things about jap cars!) so I'm hoping to learn a lot about the Audi S2.

So far I'm loving it. I never knew Miltecks are so quiet!

No idea who that is, but I'm the 7th owner so it wouldn't surprise me.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few people on here have owned this!

Nice car overall, bodywork is a little rough in a few places but I shall have that sorted in no time, want to get her looking immaculate

Welcome to the forum. Seen this car a few time, brooksys / s2bugs old car with the metro wide arches! I never did like the front bumper though *sorry*

The i'd expect power to be between 360-380 depends what map it's running

Thanks mate. You think it's running that much?! 360-380 sounds very promising, to me it doesn't feel it though, maybe it's because its quiet and smooth (very un-jap like). Coming from my old GTO it feels quite tame, but maybe it's because of the different smoother power delivery.

Makes a lovely daily driver which is why I bought it, and I actually like that front bumper, it's quite "in-your-face" lol.

I'd love to get her up to 400-ish BHP if that doesn't cost stupid money, I'd be completely happy then.

Yeah RS2 turbo conversion will run that power.

Over 400 bhp quickest way be, new injectors, new turbo ( example garrett 3076r or K26/K27 ) and a remap. don't know what size downpipe it's running.

Personally though get it dyno'd 1st and see how much boost it's running, make sure you've got no boost leaks so pressure test the system.

If it's running only 1.6 bar then a MRC 1.9 bar RS2 might be your choice for a quick and easy change

Thanks a lot Jamo, much appreciated.

I'll certainly be getting her on the RR first just to see exactly what is what and making sure she is healthy.

So basically you're saying I can potentially remap it to 1.9 bar? Isn't that quite a lot of boost on a stock engine?

I think I'll be up for most of the night researching now

                    Thanks guys!

Anthonys2- my old GTO was running 430bhp/410lb ft, it ran a 12.5 second quarter at 115mph, so it was pretty quick. The S2 is a totally different animal, far more smoother, less raw, more refined and about 10 times as quiet! I love the 5-pot engine note though.

Its certainly a fair bit slower than the GTO but I was already expecting that, but it makes up for it by being far easier to live with, and thats important for me.

A quick piccy of the 'O' just before she went. She was returning 12.8 mpg lol.

Oh believe me I traded her for the S2 yesterday morning and the new owner was chuffed to bits with her, whereas I was almost in tears. But the S2 is a lovely car, one which I can actually use in everyday conditions as opposed to just the motorway or the dragstrip lol. It will never have the drama or presense of the GTO but thats not why I bought it, I want a subtle, classly, comfy German car which has some muscle to surprise people.

Quite a few forum members are running 1.9bar chips with no issue's and have been for a while. Its only when you start doing 2+ bar continous that the turbo starts complaining.

I'd definately get it checked to see what power your doing it should feel rather quick if its running right.

I was chatting with rj scotty the other day as from what I remember him saying his s2 avant is 1 digit out on the reg plates.

Thanks mate, these engines can run a lot of boost then, impressive.

I'll use my mates vagcom to run a diagnostics then a dyno session to see how she is doing.

1.9 bar on a RS2 turbo gives a very uneven power delivery as it can reach that for a moment, then it'll taper off right away.

It'll get you close to 600nm, which is a good point to stop on stock rods, so that if you get a little knock every now and then it's not instantly engine rebuild time.

It should feel fairly aggressive, even if you are used to that 400bhp car of yours.
If it feels tame, then it is likely there is something wrong with it.

Pressurize the intake (search for boost leak test), that's likely to be the issue.
