    Hello from ireland

Hey folks I joined this forum a few years ago im not an S2 owner but im planning on fitting a 2.2 20v 5cyl engine to my BMW E36 touring. Im a capable tech proficient with toyotas. I was due to start this project a few years ago but a new arrival put paid to that plan, then at least. ive been searching online for pricing guides on these engines and they range from 1000 to 2000 sterling im hoping to go see this engine which is local to me once the seller replies. their a rare item in ireland what do ye all think of the price and what should i look out for as a first time buyer. id ideally like to buy an unmolested engine where mods are concerned. Thanks for reading.

    Welcome,

How come you're putting in a I5 into a BMW touring, and not buying a ready made car built around the same engine with an S2 Avant (ABY), or if size is important, a urS6 Avant (AAN)?

    Just askin........

Perfectly valid question my answer is simple i want a rwd with audi 5cylinder power and sound. I contemplated V6 TTDi recently but hope to stick to my original idea. What do you think about the engine in the link

No, IMHO, go for an ABY engine, when the next Avant or late model Coupe is parted out, or someone may have an ABY they wish to sell.

Convert an Avant to rwd would be easier.

What you need to do is buy an S2 Avant and then make an M3 touring out of your E36. BMW's should have six cylinders If there was such a thing as an E46 Touring M3 i would own one

As for the link, sounds too much to me for a 3B motor, i paid less for a complete ABY engine with wiring looms, ecu, airbox, exhaust. Basically everything to do an engine conversion. Only catch was i had to go to England to collect it, but in hindsight shipping a pallet would have been more cost effective.
