Hi all, new b here. Recently bought a 1996 Audi RS2 in brilliant black. It's pretty much stock apart from a Link G4 ECU and has an aftermarket bypass valve and wheels (original wheels are in the shed!). It has done 186,000km. Very excited about it and no doubt lots to learn. I've been an Audi nut for a while, having owned a 2001 B5 A4 1.8TQ Avant for 12 years and a 2001 B5 RS4 for 6 years.
Stunning pair of RS motors you have there mate
What was the reason for the previous owne fitting the aftermarket ECU?
Thanks
Re the Q: I honestly have no idea. I have been wondering that myself. Having said that the car seems to run beautifully and there are tuners here in NZ who are very familiar with Link ECUs, so it opens up some opportunities down the track if I decide to fettle with it. The car is currently running stock boost and was set up by a dyno tuner in Wellington.
One thing about the B4 that has impressed me is the quality and fit of the interior. The B5 by comparison has very good fit but some of the hard plastics are not wearing well.
A couple of pics of the interior:
This is my favourite part of the car though!:
As far as history goes, I believe the car spent most of it's past life in Taranaki. It's had several owners but one of those had it from 2003 until 2010. At least the last two owners have been enthusiasts and I think it shows in the current condition of the car.
Oh I should point out I am picking up an OE shift knob and boot for it this weekend
It was sold in the NZ market as the A4 1.8TQ 'Le Mans'. I believe essentially the same car was sold in the UK market as a 'Sport'. I think all the NZ cars were sold with MTM chip upgrades (187hp) and came with full factory warranty.

A very good car and the one started my Audi following!
Personally, given their rarity over there I would be tempted to remove that ECU and those wheels and return it to standard
Original wheels need a refurb and one is bent. I'll get them done at some stage. As far as the ECU goes, I'm not really too worried as I plan to be a long term keeper. I might see if I can source an ECU at some stage which could be reinstalled if necessary. Do Audi still sell them?
