Over here for the pics: http://www.s2forum.com/forum/album.p...pictureid=2120
Looks like it's had the front lamps upgraded some time in it's life as those are ABY coupe lamps, also the wheels are ABY spec too.
At 550, it's a steal but it does need some work but will totally be worth it in my opinion

ABY engine code (later S2 engine) rather than 3B engine code (earlier S2 engine)
Many other things were changed around the same time that the engine code changed (headlights, wheels, gbox, etc) so the earlier and later are often referred to as their engine codes...Black B3 1990 CQ 2.3E converted to ABY & 6spd. (301bhp) - Now Sold

01 Silver D2 A8 3.7 quattro sport - SOLD

So your car is a 3B but it appears that a previous owner has kindly upgraded the wheels and headlights to the later ABY spec

ABY is the engine code for the late 92- Spec model. 3B is the model you have which is 91 to about October 92.
Basic differences:
3B battery in the engine bay, ABY under seats.
3B 5 speed transmission compared to ABY 6.
3B reflector headlights, ABY ellipsoids.
3B used a distributor whereas ABY has coil on plugs.
3B had different alloys to the ABY.
3B has slightly less torque than ABY.
Other technical stuff: Different airbox, MAF, intercooler, flywheel (SMF on the 3B vs DMF on the ABY), gearbox ratios on the 3B are longer because it is 5 speed, ABY has over-boost functionality when full throttle is applied to supply more torque output, 3B is an overall lighter model as well, happy to help

You got got that for a song! Well done! Looks a bit rough round the edges but for the money who'd complain? Where did you find such a bargain, local press?Last edited by K Simmonds; 2 January 2014, 16:41.1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.

thanks for the kind input guys!
A big thank you to all that has commented on this post and put my mind in order as to what car I actually have here.....So I have a B3 with ABY headlights and wheels!!....don't know if that's a good thing or not as I was hoping it was original!....but im not too upset about it I think I have a half decent motor..
Now where would be the best place to source parts?...I have tried GSF for some but they never seem to be able to help on the items I need,....
Mechanicly its fine just needs a new make up as far as I can tell there is nothing major that needs doing.I have a mountain of paperwork that came with it..I was well in to double figures today and she still wanted to pull even more!!.
As for where I got it....well it sort of fell into my lap...an old friend was a bit short and called me up and asked if I wanted to buy it and I was looking at buying a car that week so had the cash.....he wanted 1300 but said he may have to put it in the auctions @ Saltash,...So I called him up the day it was meant to go in and he said the ppl told him he would be looking to sell it between 4oo-7oo....I offered him 550 ....and the rest is history!!
its such a no brainer tee hee
