It's been done before and it's still not a good idea to cover the coils in any way.
Most of the stress these coils take is from the dwell settings being much to high, but heat also plays it's role in there demise, so it's best to leave them uncovered.

I leave the cover on for the time being and see if this gives any problems

Won't give you any problems but will lead to an early failure of the coils. I believe prj mentioned that we should use FR5DP with 1.8T coils. Correct me if I'm wrong someone

EDIT: Wasn't prj, was thuppu on the forum

What plugs you use is down to what power you are running, the 2 ms dwell time is much more important.

I've often though of some heat sink material and the adhesive used to attach them to PC CPUs. Should help with cooling.

I think up to chipped RS2 power levels, I'm not sure if the plugs are meant to work better with those coils.

Like I said, dwell time is more important, especially when it gets cold and stock motronic coil settings up the dwell time to 4 hours

Consensus then is to get the cover off, mine have almost lasted two years now and in Malta's climate which is pretty hot . Even if they fail they aren't as expensive as an original ABY/ADU coil or get the ecu mapped for them

i use the origional bosch plugs for AAN
my coil charge time in ignition dwell settings in vems stands on 2.5ms
are these red coils not good enough if i go for 500hp?

They are fine, people have made 700hp with them.

By original AAN plugs you mean F5DPOR ? They used to be the plug to use, but in later years the manufacturing standards have gone out of the window and they are now a liability.
The ceramic brakes off and destroys your engine, lots of instances of this happening.
If you happen to have some of the the originals then you are ok, the trouble is as far as I know, there is no way to tell.
Personally I would not chance it.
