There are a few guys with S2 and RS2s on S.Wales, may be worth catching up with one of them for a run around the block

Oh, and I'm only over in Brissol, so I'll happily take you out and burn some 98 unleaded to help you along the way. The last person I did that for bought an S2 less than a month later

As above, S2s are totally different to old VWs; they're much more refined and solid and with the extra weight that brings, they require a bit more momentum management. What the cars do share is personality and a very enthusiast network of forums and clubs.

UK S2s tend to be fairly cheap; even a mint ABY with low miles can be had for ÂŁ5-6k.

Some of the later airbag cars were afflicted with that steering wheel.

Having owned (still own) several MK2 GTi's, a couple of MK2 Scirocco's, G60 and VR6 Corrado's as well as standard B3 Coupes I can only echo the comments that an S2 is quite different to drive though I would say their a natural progression from that sort of stuff. S2's are more refined and solid feeling though a little lardy, you know there's some mass behind you put it that way, mine is partially stripped with zero sound insulation and it's only about as noisy inside as my current stock MK2 16V.

At risk of getting flamed I'd say my daily driver totally stock Corrado G60 handles better than an S2 Coupe, it's certainly easier to drive on or close to the limit. That said I know which one I prefer for a random V-power burning blast, got to be the S2

Penguin- Did you have a factory 16V Scirocco?

Also where about's are you? I'm halfway between Brecon and Builth well's, if you close your welcome to swing by on a weekend.

I had a factory 16v it was converted to rhd by a firm based in Hull but it lost its power steering in the process, a much quicker car than a Golf 16v low speed manouvres could be hard work though. My everyday car is a Merc w124 300e which is comfortable and has good acceleration over 50 mph. I also have a G-Wagen ge300 with the same 3 litre engine, its slow, thirsty but can go anywhere.

its the 3rd one I have had but I'm not using it much, the w124 is so much more comfortable and even with the auto 25% better fuel economy. Which brings the question what will the S2 achieve to the gallon
