    New member, new Coupe 16v

    Hello all

Just signed up as I'm back in the seat of another Coupe after too many years. The car itself is a 1993 16V, in red. Low mileage, lowered, 18s, with a few niggles to sort and some bigger plans for the future.

I owned a 2.2 KV Coupe a while ago and I've missed it ever since, so recently got the bug in my head that I needed another! I held out for a while looking for the right car - red or black, and a 7a 20v... but as is usually the case nothing came up. Spotted the 16v for sale, and although I wanted another 5 pot for the noise, and prefer the B3 shape, this one was certainly worth a look. I actually saw it on a thread on another forum a few days after I bought it, so I can confirm it has the following:

    -60mm Boge springs
    Delphi shocks
    Sport steering wheel
    18" Fox alloys
And the last owner had a rather loud Longlife exhaust fitted..

    Bad points:
It stalls and feels like a misfire at low revs once the engine is warm, coolant temp gauge doesn't move off 70, needs the tracking sorted, there's the odd spot where it's been touched up a bit rashly, intermittent wiper doesn't seem to work, wheels need balancing. Apart from that it's great, the engine pulls nicely and the suspension isn't at all harsh considering the 60mm drop. No damp in the boot and the bodywork itself is tidy, just the odd tiny ding here and there, and the bottom door rubbers have come away at the back edge and appear to have been trimmed off. Hmm.

    Plans:
Sort out all of the above
Give it a full service (need to check the paperwork to see if the belt's been done recently)
Take it somewhere to get the backbox swapped for something a little more discrete in the looks and noise department
    Get a V6 bumper
    Leather (Recaros..?)
New alloys - Azev A seem to be my first choice at the minute
Maybe a trip to Stealth Racing once it's all working as intended..

    So, a few questions:
Are the fogs and indicators on the standard bumper the same part as those on a V6/S2 bumper? Don't want to buy some and then find out I could have taken mine out of the standard bumper and use those..!

Is the stalling issue common? Any info on that would help.

Wheels - the current alloys are fitted with 215 35 18 tyres, which are quite low profile - is this the right size to keep the rolling radius the same as standard? And in order to get a nice flush fit with the arches, what sort of wheel widths and offsets do I need to be aiming for? Like I said, I'm after some 18" Azev A, or something similar. Suggestions welcome.

Recaro leather - I assume these are rather rare and priced accordingly? The interior is unfortunately in grey, so to do it properly I'd swap the dash for a black one. Is this too much of a pig of a job or relatively easy? Suppose I could create some sort of two tone black and grey interior and learn to love it!

Exhaust - Anyone know of somewhere decent in the Notts/South Yorkshire area that could replace the tips/backbox for something a bit more in keeping with the car? Good quality stainless and a good fit is required obviously.

I'm sure there's going to be lots more I need help with so hopefully I'm in the right place to learn.

I'll get some pics up at some point but here's one I gleaned from the thread I mentioned, it's basically how it looks now:

    Cheers

Yeah I actually messaged him and was set to have a look as it's just up the M1 from me. Ended up buying the 16v instead.

If it stays bone dry in the foot wheels as well then your a lucky man, there really isn't many totally dry Coupes.

Tyre's wise 225/45/17's are about the best compromise between looks and handling, if you want to stick with the 18's then the closet size to stock would be be 225/40/18's. Though 215/40's would also be OK same applies to the 17's, I actually run 215/45/17 trackday tyre's on my light weight rims.

Ok, cheers for the info. So the 215 35 18s it has currently are a little shallow, as I suspected. Will bear that in mind when (if)I find some Azevs!

18x8 ET35 with 10mm spacers on the back. 225/40R18 tyres are correct.

You can go 8.5 wide with ET32 equivalent up front and 235. I think you can also run 9 wide at the back with ET35.

This is all for an S2 but its the same shell, so should* all apply.

Thanks mate, helpful info there. Just need to find some wheels now. Anyone know of a similar wheel to Azev A that are still being manufactured?
