So in other words, a couple of grand in today's money

The engine work, to do the same now, at least that is btw

It would be a bit more than a couple of grand for that kind of work. I'm rebuilding my Leon cupra Mk2 at the moment and the rods and pistons have cost me just short of £800 alone, plus £200 in block work. So with cams and injectors it soon adds up.

Nice cars not seen many of the ABT kitted coupes before.
