If you are not in a rush I might have the perfect shell for a track car for you. Not an S2, but my CQ has been stitch welded, front & rear strut brace pick-ups welded in, lower chassis brace added, plus its 100Kg lighter than an ABY shell and has had a complete restoration on the underbody, just needs some paint top-side that wouldn't be important on a track car

Definitely no rush...got to finish de-Vauxhalling the Mini and re-Mini-ing it first. If a bargain came along, I'd buy it and keep it outside the unit (or keep it at home and have the missus get all shouty again).
I was sort of thinking I'd buy a complete S2 and drive it around for a while as it is. Buy a spare engine to build up so I've got a standard S2 on the road until the new engine is ready, then strip the interior out, sell that, strip the engine out as a spare to keep in the unit, prep the shell, cage the car up... but that's already me thinking way ahead of where I need to. What'll probably happen is I'll buy a car, buy a load of spare parts, change my mind several times over, waste thousands of pounds and then get bored and put it back to standard. That's what my projects are normally like! Haha
It'd actually be handy to look over a stripped out shell too. It's years since I've worked on an Audi Coupe!

Welcome - A trackday S2 isn't going to be cheap to build properly - the S2 is expensive & frustrating enough sometimes to keep on the road, but you might get lucky with someone else's project car. Don't rush to buy the 1st one you see or you may live to regret it - pays to have some mechanical knowledge !
Cheers for the welcome. I won't be too hasty, it's fair to say I've definitely learned that lesson in the past. I'm knocking on the door of 40 now so at least insurance is cheap. I had a quote on an RS4 Avant the other day for £360, that amazed me!
I'm relatively clued up mechanically too, so I'm lucky in that sense.
