Yep 1.8t is lighter newer technology and powerful. Easier to find one as well. Top end is less for extreme rebuild but as a stock comes with similarish power figures as 2.2 2.3 t...

What kind of ******** is this? AFAIK the V6 gearbox bellhousing fits the 4-pot engines as well. And as long as the gearbox and diff belong to eachother there is no problem in that department.
In my experience the V6 boxes are not very strong though, but then the 1.8T won't produce as much torque as a 5 pot turbo so you might be good.

I hope that it is good enough for at least 350/400bhp because if not this car would not be worth it as I would not plan to change all the drive train as well.

So the 1.8t from lets say from a golf mk4 GTI would be a direct fit to the current gearbox? (that is the impression I got from a build thread posted earlier...even the mountings from an A4 bolted in directly )

          Calm down buddy

You can use them but why would you when the gearing is all wrong and set up for a lazy V6 ??

I always thought my gearbox and diff were the same as an S2 but peeps on here tell me differently and the gearing is unsuitable !
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

I am calm. I can't see why the gearing is all wrong and can't be used unless the engine has 500+ bhp

So I managed to find someone who would sell me a half cut golf mk4 with an ARZ 150bhp (prefered if it was a BAM to be hones but...). Being a half cut it has got an intact wiring loom and the gauges which as far as I know are needed to make the engine work unless you are using a stand alone ECU. He asked 780 pounds for it (no gearbox)... sounds sensible enough but I am not sure about the ARZ engine's ability to tune very well
