    Hi Guys

    Hi Guys,

Been lurking for a while, and now decided to register. Been an S2 fan for ages and now think it is time to scratch my itch.

I have been looking at adverts and noticed the blue one that is on e-bay among other places.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-Quatt...item4ade1717c4

Does anyone know anything about this car? Do you think the price sounds right?

    Thanks in advance

    Sean..

Welcome first of all... firstly I think that car looks fine on paper, but you really have to go and see 5-10 or more cars to get a feel for them. You really cannot comment on price until you see the condition in the flesh so to speak. Later cars do of course attract a higher premium, but I will wager there are plenty older ones on higher miles that have been better looked after or have most recent rebuilds or upgrades.

The biggest decision about running an S2 or RS2 is can you afford the running costs (beyond fuel & insurance) - this means you either need to dig deep and pay specialist garages to look after it, or you roll your sleeves up and get stuck in yourself - but the latter isn't for everyone especially with fair degree of complexity on these old machines.

Be advised as well some parts are silly expensive and/or hard to source. All that said - if you get a nice one in good condition you will be very happy with its odd combination of looks, sound, grip and acceleration. Its as happy cruising down the motorway or hooning across B-roads.

Check the buyers guide at http://S2central.net and the FAQs on this forum and you will be considerably more educated with your search. Good luck with that !

Another way to build knowledge is to look out for a local meet (you just missed ADI) and see a bunch of cars and owners all in one place.

        Welcome Sean

Where about's in the country are you?
The Pelican Blue coupe certainly looks a nice car, however it was sold privately around a year ago for a fair bit less money so the dealer has given it a good detail and stuck money on the price. That doesn't mean to say it's not worth money though and tidy original cars are few & far between. Do you want a standard car or are you planning to modify it?

          Hi,

Yeah I am a bit of a tinkerer if truth be told, so I could see a brake upgrade and a bit of this and that. Nothing to drastic though.

What do people think of these cars as daily drivers, given their age etc?

Used mine daily for 12 years. Only broke down once ( fuel pump ). Avg mpg 20 - 27.
Echo all that is said above.

I would say they actually prefer to be used daily and tend to be more reliable used all the time. Fuel costs may make you think again though
Difficulty comes when you need to work on them as often parts are not immediately available, for example most dealer parts are on 10 day back order from Germany so downtime is inevitable a some point.
Many people will tell you a stock(ish) car with remap and brake upgrade is probably the best compromise and most fun to use on a day to day basis

Welcome. Fine choice of car. Put your location on your profile and someone close by will no doubt offer you a ride so you can see what is what. I am close to Banbury Oxfordshire if that is close enough to wherever you live. Happy to show you what a good car is capable of.

That is a shame, my S2 was recently in Small Heath having the box rebuilt. Would have been the perfect opportunity to have a blast. If you find yourself over towards Jct 11 of the M40, send me a message.
