Trying To Find A Compatible 3bar Map Sensor

    Hi there guys

I have been reading your/the audi info on map sensor function and n75 valve function , My car is not an Audi but a 1994 mk3 golf tdi 1Z engine thats been highly modified in every way , i am currently trying to obtain a 3 bar map sensor from the Audi RS2 which i beleave uses the same range as my 2 bar standard map sensor being .5 volts to 4.9/5 volts...........the 2 problems as you will know is i'm trying to run around the 30psi pressure range with a 2 bar map is not a good situation so this is wy i'm trying to find out if the RS2's 3 bar map will be compatible with my bosch 14 bit ecm/u .

Is it right to think/say that if one has boost creep the ecu would see this as a boost deviation and the car go into limp mode and the reason for this would be because the actuation i have is the cosworth dash 31 which holds .7 bar , which i would have to change to the dash 34=1 bar unit...i have been told , the car was mapped on the 7/6/06 and had 226hp fly @ 25/26psi but was falling off this at w o t , so the fuel had to be lowered some .

I am running a T28 bb which also has a cut back exhaust and can run up to 36psi but i only want to run 30psi to give me some safty margin , the cr has been dropped a couple of points , head flowed , valve job not 1.9L but 2.0L and also a high lift cam and hardened rods in place , so the reliability is there...................could you please give me any info on compatibility with using the RS2's map senor and where could i buy one from............i live in the UK west yorshire area CAN ANYONE HELP ME OUT HERE PLEASE!!!.

Try doing a search for VMAP. MRC are able to work some magic with these sensors too

Hi Des........i forgot you have one of these Audi monsters..........on my quest to find a compatable 3 bar map sensor for my older msa 12 bit ecu i stbled upon a guy called tim , i forget the company name.........it may be already known by you people but he can get the rs2 3bar map sensors for £150+vat..........i ended up buying the upgrade map that the cosworth boys use (italian jobies) and a bit cheaper.

Des help me out here......i'm looking for a nice picture or a diagramm of my ecu for my friend to be able to do a solder job for the new 3bar map sensor , and referance to which of the 3 wires and what colours relate to (ground) (5 volt signal ) (ecu) when the board is turned upside down and the soldered wires are showing and are at the top as you look at it.

P.S......hows the twin turbo'd tdi monster coming along M8.

Hi Mojoes. I think if its the tim i am thinking of, Tim is simon tdi rs brother! Anyhow, alll i did was to open my ecu, turn ignition on. Then meater out the map sendor. It has 3 pins. 0 volt 5 volt and signal. Signal will be about 1.3v at idle. Then sut every thing down and remove ecu. Unsolder the stock map, then i fitted 3 wires to the pcb. These can be real thin wires. I drilled out the stock barb connection on the ecu where the boost pipe goes on, then passed the 3 wires through there. Then buy a VAG ARL map sendor. These have 4 pins, 0 v, 5v, boost, temp. We dont need temp so it doesent need connected. Then just solder the 3 wires from the ecu onto the ARL 3 bar map. And thats that. I have the pin outs for the map if you need them. But cant rember the ecu ones at the moment. Better just to measure your own ecu.

The chip needs recalabrated. Aligator did that for me, then i just blew the code in with my eprom blower. I am taking off my 3 bar map soon and fitting the 3.5 bar map i got from the states. The ARL map is only like £30-40, so why bother with a vmap at £150???

Cheers for that Des.....i've bought a 3 pin out marelli 3 bar map sensor and the game plan is to let Simon fit the dash 34 actuator and boost controller back on , then take it to the chip tuner for him to wire in the map sensor but i've been told to look for a 1.5 bar spring and possibly a diaphragm to match to use in conjuction with the controller to inable it to run at 30psi constant/wot.

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHERE I CAN GET A 2.5 BAR SPRING FOR MY DASH/GARRETT 31/34 ACTUATOR FROM DES!!!!

            Cheers,
            MOJO.

You can have normal S2 map sensors, which should be easier to find than the RS2 item, recalibrated here: http://www.mb-cartuning.de/.
