Yeah.....but engine dynos are the defacto standard in getting an engines "true" power....
Much more reliable in getting figures than a chassis Dyno IMHO...
Also, The engine Dyno of VS Motor had their M5 turbo motor built on it which iirc was about 1130 bhp (and a 200 shot of nitrous on the strip I think)
That car ran mid to high 8 second quarters before the engine blew a couple of months back so this dyno does have pedigree!!!
I reckon the car that gets that lump will be a monster on strip or street

Everyone who has seen Jonus and Vidar Strand at VS motor in action the last years will not question these numbers. Jonus has been racing audi quattros on the track/strip for some years now and has ran several low 10´s.Originally posted by ctolladayPut it in a chassis and then measure it again before I'm impressed. I'm sorry but setting things up in an ideal enviroment and claiming big power is not impressive. Put the power on the tarmac and see what happens.
1/4 mile times are the way to measure the results of hard labour. It takes a lot of skill to set up a car and even more to control it of the lights. Join these skills in one person and I will worship!
The top speed on his runs says it all!
402m: 10.07@239km/h
201m: 6,6@190km/h
I think he ran a “similar setup†engine when he sat these times, only with a Turbonetics T72 turbo in stead of the new PT76GTS.
I can also mention that the engine and setup is done together with Tor Øyvind Skinne, who has built racing/drag engines for many years.
They are also bulding a S2 Coupe with an 4,2 liter Audi V8 engine with Nicasil cylinder sleeves and a Turbonetics Thumper turbo that is capable of 1600hp!!! The plan is to have it ready for the 2007 season."Ring addicted"

My only point is that max hp figures are things you find in Max Power and Fast Car. Not that I read these mags but I hear that Kev Chav gets his Corsa and wangs in the biggest motor, lets say a cav turbo, and then finds that he is either sat on the start line with lots of smoke or listening to his car disintergrate around him.
The only true way to measure the whole system (the complete engineering package) is to throw it down a strip as fast as you can. Chassis dynamics play a major part in getting power to the tarmac (sorry for the sucking eggs stuff).
Now I've started... The strip is only part of the story. The track is the only true way to measure a cars ability. Top Gear demonstrates this. Take one tame racing driver, a number of cars and a test track and you can make a comparison between cars. Yes there are floors, the Stig is not a constant, but there you go.
Right... I'm off for a brew!Comment

I hate to disagree mate....but IMO the stig is NOT a tame racing driver
Though I'm not sure WHO HE IS??!!Comment

I totaly agree!Originally posted by ctolladayThe only true way to measure the whole system (the complete engineering package) is to throw it down a strip as fast as you can. Chassis dynamics play a major part in getting power to the tarmac (sorry for the sucking eggs stuff).
My only point is that both Jonus and Vidar can backup the high Hp Dyno output with very fast times on the strip.
Here is Jonus runing a low 10 sec run in summer 2004 with a 2,5L engine (This engine was a 2,2 block with 95,5 TDI crank i think):
And here is VS running a high 8 sec run:

Well a drag car requires a very different set up than road, rally or circuit. Also weight is something and driving around a track is not that interesting because tyres and weight distribution come in very importend.Originally posted by ctolladay***
This Jonus car is extremely quick and I doubt if there are many Audi's to beat him.
And yes 0-60 is next to weight also a matter of grip. There was an FWD Golf I doing around 10 as well. But I think this car will beat the crap out of 98% of the cars on this forum when it comes to 30-120 mph times...
There is no comparison between all disiplines. But I think a Rallycross car without restrictors is the icing on the cake when it comes to accelerating to 100mph and breaking and handling on rough (and streets are rough too) terain and the ALS helps it after any corner...Comment
on 402meter
THAT'S for sure
