Personally dont like the wheels but its a nice colour that Lago blue - same as my first coupe (sigh!) When that was written off I looked at a few 2wd 20v coupes, (one was also lago) and they were going for around the £800 - £1,000 mark then IRC. The quattro element makes a heck of a difference on price i.e a cq20v (a much rarer beast) commands a much higher price against a 2wd 20v coupe. It sounds like a different market in Ireland to over here as the whole range seems much rarer, but £2,200 is way over the top, espcially whens there's been S2 avants going for not a great deal more recently! Good luck!

Carlito, not an S2 just a V6 quattro. The S2 have the 20V 5cyl turbo engine only. Looks like an S2 due to having the same front bumper but there are a few subtle diferences. One is that it has the 4 stud hubs not the 5 stud as with the S2. Tis a nice engine though.Dark Grey Avant

An "S2" v6 doesn't exist either.Originally posted by carlitoand is an S2 V6, available at €4,000.
Thoughts?
The S2 has a 2226cc five cylinder 20v turbo motor. Early engines were designated "3B" and later ones "ABY". Difference was the later had no distributor but coilpacks instead, 10bhp more, six speed gearbox and all S2's have five stud hubs.
To recap, S2's only ever came with a 2.2L five cylinder 20v turbo engine and had quattro as standard.
Any other engined Coupe "isn't" an S2.
The V6 engined car above could either be the 2.6 (ABC) or the 2.8 (AAH). If it's a quattro then it only ever came with the 2.8 engine.
Both V6 engines are early vag motors with only 2 valves per cylinder making them 12v's.
Smooth engines, more of a motorway cruiser than an outright barnstormer, powerful but not as "urgent" as a 5 cylinder engine.
If you can't stretch to an S2, my choice would be a Coupe quattro 20v (2309cc 5 cylinder 20v) or a Coupe quattro 2.8 V6, as the five cylinder 20v and the V6's can be a little bit of a handful when pushed in a FWD chassis (understeer hell)

thanks again lads. at least now I know what I'm looking at now. Unfortunately they are the only two to choose from. Unless I go to England and get one there but then I have to pay VRT (Irish registration tax) on the import. The reason the first one is a bit pricey possibly is because yer man had to pay VRT on it. To be honest the performance in terms of power etc isn't really that important to me right now. I'd like to get one and find my way around it and then maybe upgrade later. I might take the lago one for a spin at the weekend and see if he's willing to budge on the price.

Carlito,
Where to start lol, ok the 20v engines were never sold here in Ireland so any 20v's in the country are imported from the UK. Irish market only got the 10v 2.3e coupe, and 10v quattro coupe. UK markets also got the 20v 2.3 in quattro and non quattro form. S2's were sold here but good luck in finding one.
I only ever found one CQ20v for sale in Ireland, it was a red one in Cork with a 90C reg but it was actually a 10v with a 20v engine stuck in. badly. If you find it stay away. I eventually gave up looking here and bought my cq20v in the UK. Still took me a year to find a nice clean example but it was worth it in the end. VRT was about €1200, that was about 3 years ago. These cars are rare, i think there was less cq20v's made than any other coupe, something like 503 RHD models for the uk market.
My advice, buy a quattro model as they handle a lot better, and also the traction and stability you gain from all wheel drive. On the engines i prefer the 20v 5cyl as its easy to convert to full S2 spec later down the road. V6 models are very different in nature, much more relaxed cruiser then the 20v's. They were sold here from 92 on, basically they replaced the CQ's with the 2.6 v6, and the cq20v with the 2.8 v8. Almost all coupes you see here will only be the 4cyl models.
Hope that helps, please PM me if you have any q's, and good luck with your search
Mark.
P.S. If you do buy a 20v make sure the insurance company know what it is, i found they all listed it as an S2 which costs more to insure. Registration office should be fine to register it, took me over a week as they had to add the 7A engine into there system
....so i think i have the first "offical" 20v import in the country
