No, they were only available in Europe. Both the S4 and S6 were available with either the 2.2 20v turbo or the 4.2 V8 engine. The V8 S4 had 280bhp which was upped to 290bhp in the S6 but then the special S6+ was introduced and blew them all away! Incidently the S6+ was created by the Quattro Gmbh division of Audi that later created the original RS4!

None were made RHD, the reason behind it they didn't want to take sales away from the S8.

Only ever seen one in the UK, I forget the show (Audi orientated thing at Donnington, Richard Seaman Trophy?) and some guy had driven his Noggy Blue S6+Avant over from France, couldn't understand a word he was saying but his car rocked

They also made the S4 as a V8 but didn't call it a plus.

Well, apart from the wheels, the graphics, the wood trim, the dodgy exhaust pipe .. it's still a beast!

Are there any distinguishing features (apart from the badge) that mark an S6 Plus out?

That's not an S6+

The S6+ was only made from june 1996 to july 1997.
