Another S2 back on the road, the P7’s feel good. I took it for a drive around Derbyshire this afternoon and this thing has so much grip and soooo much torque, I could get myself into trouble very easily. Ian the valeter spent two days claying, buffing and ceramic sealing the paint

That has the infrared remote locking. That must be rarer than electric lumbar support on a Final Edition Cab. What does the key look like for that? Did it work?

When I was working on these in the late 90's early 2000's, I don't recall ever seeing the infrared central locking, I fitted quite a few radio remotes though. No, it doesn't work! I bought four new Varta battery cells, nothing. I fitted new genuine pump from Tradition, that didn't work at all and I noticed it had a burnt out pin! They sent me another, nowt... I bought an infrared tester, no signal, so now I have to get the key repaired which is above my pay grade, suggestions most welcome. I got the alarm working, the key barrel switch was faulty and again, Tradition to the rescue.

I think if that S2 Avant was mine and for the keeping, I’d either remove the IR locking entirely and use with classic key blade only…
              OR:
Retrofit the radio locking with OE parts and replace the exterior B trim panel sans IR sensor…

Does that key have Audi rings on either side? It almost looks aftermarket/GM like. That whole setup might have been an OE bolt-on from new..? It’s certainly super rare!

Yes, Audi on the other side, super rare to me means PITA

Super rare can be super cool! I waited and waited to find a Cab that had cruise control just because it’s electro-pneumatic. Setting it and feeling it suck the pedal down by itself put’s a smile on my geeky face

In the late 80's and early 90's I fitted quite a few VDO Tempostat kits but they were electro mechanical and did a few Golf 2 GTI's with the OE pneumatic parts, I still have two Golf 2 type 1G cruise control switches and they certainly are rare.

New genuine box for the S2. It was listed by Tradition as recon exchange but there are no signs any of the parts have been used, it looks brand new.

It would have been nicer if the VAG "gearbox specialist" who rebuilt the original, hadn't made a pigs ear of it... sounds like a ****ing coffee grinder in 1st.

Manual boxes from VAG are usually affordable, it is the ZF DSG longitudinal DSG's that will make your eyes bleed; some are nearly eighteen grand.
