Hi everyone, I used to chat on this forum 2004 and 5 … not much since.. I’m still a member but I’m trying to put out a wanted ad for an S2 Avant or even RS2.. I owned an RS2 when kids were very young.. my son said ‘slow down’ and I ran out of petrol on the school run… interestingly the S2 estate may hit that middle ground of great power and slightly better mpg.. any tips will be much appreciated ??

I have also ran out of fuel twice in the last year in my 80 v6, but i blame trusting a 31yr old fuel gauge!!

Agree, the gauge isn't that accurate at the best of times. You can run out of fuel in any car.Comment

There's a fuel gauge stabiliser module, somewhere under the dash, it's designed to smooth out variations in the fuel level so you don't get the gauge flapping up and down going round corners etc. when it goes wrong the car will run out of fuel when the gauge shows about a 1/4 tank.
