Some photos of the original double-skinned long-life cat-back exhaust. Corrosion but no holes. Still in one long piece (not cut). The silencer doesn't look too badAttached FilesComment

Interesting exhaust pipework. Why would Audi split and rejoin the pipe into two from one side of an inline engine to feed two cats.
Why not put one bigger cat in?
I get it on V layouts because you have to have two pipes from the engineā¦Comment

I've got no idea why Audi decided to go for the twin cat layout as opposed to using a single larger unit, perhaps it was due to cat technology at the time meaning it would have to massive and impede ground clearance??? The sports one's fitted to RS2's are quite compact compared to those on ABY and particularly 3B cars which are huge. To be honest I'm not a fan of the design at all, too many bends to cause turbulence and potential restriction when upping the power, plus it weighs a ton, if I 'only' had an S2 I'd remove the lot and fabricate a simple 2.75 or 3" single box turbo back system as I did with my 3B which wasn't overly loud.
Jon... Your system was indeed about on it's last leg's without breaking out the welder, it's in slightly worse condition than mine though not beyond saving. The Supersprint look's great but I wouldn't expect anything less, how are you finding the exhaust note?1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.
