    Thatcham alarms

Got a fantastic quote from my broker for renewal of my insurance for my totally original 94 S2 , acquired last November. £348 with Axa for fully comp, garaged and limited to 6k per year, even with an Edinburgh post code. I am 54 so I suppose that helps, perhaps they consider I have insuffient strength to push the throttle to go near the speed limit!

One snag when I received the paperwork. I need a Thatcham 1 or 2 alarm. I presume the standard alarm does not meet the these requirements? Is there any simple upgrade easily fitted or do I need to get one fitted by a specialist or end up paying more for the insurance?

    Any comments?

Will need to pay out... AFAIK Cat 2 is just an immobiliser and a CAT1 is an alarm

Expect to pay around £300 for a decent CAT 1 alarm, Toad, Clifford, Cobra etc...

Clifford do three cat 1 alarms:-
      1) Concept 200 (although my brother swears it was the 300 instead,i'm not sure though)
      2) Concept 500
      3) Concept 600
The avantguard isnt a cat listed alarm, despite it having all and more of the features of the 600, so dont go for this. I have a Concept 500 on mine which is sufficent enough, and can also be upgraded to an avantguard if i want.
The concept 500 is normally about 500 inc fitting, although i dont know what somebody would charge around edinburgh.

I've got a toad C4T (I think) on my avant. It was £299 fitted (They even removed all the previous bodged alarm install and wiring in the price).

I've kept the factory alarm on it as well just so I can use my IR door locking if the remote fobs ever die on me.

I got a Toad AI606 cat 1 fitted, i looked at the clifford concept 300 and was told by 5 out of the 8 places i called to get an alarm that the clifford alarms have a higher fault rate than most others, i ended up getting the toad fitted by toad for £335 with a lifetime guarantee.

Clifford? That was the dragon on the old Listerine TV adverts!

The Kitten seems to have run the gamut of Clifford and SpyBall, but now uses a VW Logic 900 which has the relevant Cat 1 certification and satisfied my insurer! Seems reliable and at least I know where to find someone who can look at any problems if it does go wrong.

Clifford is the name of the guy in Max Magic on Sky One LOL!!!

They are apparently made from all the same stuff as you'd find in a MOSS alarm i believe it was.... as they were made by the same people apparently.

Sure it was MOSS or some other really dodgy brand
