Cheers, I just back from a 40 mile B road blast and am really happy with the set up, especially as it cost very little and is just a stop gap untill I can get my hands on some Coilovers. I think the Coupe quattro H&R's are about £180 tops new. Be intresting to hear how you get on with the Cobra ones if you decide to go for them.
just springs

Are you sticking with standard dampers or planning on upgrading them at the same time as fitting the springs?1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.

Just had a moan to dan at dcdezign. He said its the avant springs that are cheaper that he ordered recently. Coupe ones are still £280.

My word this is an old thread...from my first year of S2 ownership!
The springs fitted in those photo's were H&R Coupe quattro item's which I purchased second hand from another member, most of the paint had gone so I can't confirm what numbers they had on them.
After those I went for proper H&R S2 Coupe H&R 29939 VA/HA springs which looked like this.
They had the following dimensions.
Front:
Wire diameter: 13.5mm
No of coils: 7.5
Rear:
Wire diameter: 13mm
No of coils: 6.5
Later H&R kits use the same springs on the rear as the front.
I didn't get on with them very well so put the car back on stock non air-con springs from a late ABY, I found the H&R's too harsh for everyday road use and the back end sat lower than the front.Attached Files1990 B3 2.0 80 quattro.

That picture is with oem springs, or isn't it?My word this is an old thread...from my first year of S2 ownership!

Are the 29939 to harsh, or the first h&r springs? did you used Bilstein B6?
Why did you change the first H&R Springs? Do you have better pictures of the first - non 29939 - ones?
Ho does they feel?

I did a lot of mucking about with springs and dampers as soon as the car was back on the road after being reassembled, from the date it was taken I'm pretty sure that shot is with the H&R's with Koni's and solid alloy top mounts. However I could be wrong and the car is parked on a kinda funny angle so it's far from an ideal illustration.
So I've been back through my project thread and found this photo which I took just before getting an MOT for the first time in five years....
I'm 100% sure that is with the 29939 springs, Koni's and solid alloy top mounts which make the car sit about 5mm or so higher. My car is less than 1350kg's which will make it sit a little higher. I also used some different upper spring plates on the rear which raised it about 10mm to try even up the ride height, I can't remember what they were from though.
Unfortunately I don't have any other photo's when on the CQ springs, anyway they were quite well used so probably sat lower than they would new.
I've driven a few S2's, both Coupe's and Avants fitted with H&R springs and various dampers including Bilstein B6's and don't get on with them. From what I can tell they work best with the B6 dampers but I still found the car(s) skittish compared to on stock springs on anything other than perfect surfaces.
If you want to go lower then coil-overs are the way to go
