I did notice a slightly better pick up when changing from the 10w60 Castrol to the 10w50 Silkolene. The Castrol did FEEL thick. The engine revs that little bit easier IMO with the 10w50.

I agree with that comment, its a nice all round oil good for road or track use.

I use a Castrol 10W-50. Shame it leaks as quick as I put it in!

I know I'm in the minority here but Mobil 1 5w-50 is what has worked best on my Avant after using the OE 10w-40 which was too thin at the track, perfect for everyday use, Castrol 10w-60 which was perfect after a few laps of the Nürburgring but way too thick on a cold morning start.

5w-50, great at the track and great on a cold start in winter.

Mobil1 5W50 but I've used all sorts, Valvoline, Castrol and others. You want to run XXW50 for road and XXW60 for track due to the high temperatures in the turbo bearings. In the UK 15WXX or 10WXX is fine but in colder climates you want something 5WXX.

If you have access to a Halfrauds trade card then there are good deals to be had there, otherwise OpieOils are pretty slick

60 is too thick I didn't understand why but after reading oilmans explanation it makes perfect sense

Ditto. M1 5w50 works great in both the RS2 and the Golf.
Curiously, lots of people around here are running 60w stuff even in the wintertime (Scandinavia), believing that the thicker the better. 60w is too thick unless you are running oil temps of 115-120degs.

Yeah, until your oil temperature gauge is welded to 135deg and your turbine is red hot, then it's just right
