In going back through *this* thread, I think the answer is there is no ONE answer. The Audi RS2 was registered differently in different countries, there was not just one format. Some countries included an indication of the collaboration with Porsche, others ignored that part, probably since the car was sold through Audi, not Porsche.
There are 4 RS2s that have been imported into Canada in the last 2 years. I know the owners of three of them. All three of their cars came from Germany so their original registration papers would have that German ARGE designation, etc. 2 of the 3 are S2forum members and hopefully will confirm my guess.Last edited by UrS4boy; 7 January 2012, 00:15.RS2'd 93 UrS4 5 spd sedan

I found *this* thread pretty interesting and knowing your precision on everything Dave I reckon ti should be of some interest to you aswell.In going back through *this* thread, I think the answer is there is no ONE answer. The answer it's just one.
The two companies joined together on a "joint venture" or "work group" or "ARGE" to produce the car.
Some countries had things on papers done properly some others did'nt.
I remember a lovely conversation about this issue or "The RS2 Issue" in LeMans with Tom/Saltinot, Paul/S2Central, Me, Dave/S2diveruk and Kevin Thiel (Author of that lovely and extensive book about the Audi 80) from Audi Tradition.
Kevin Thiel stated that:
The car was finished/assembled/painted/built in Zuffenhausen meaning that the car was phisically coming out from a Porsche factory as a vehicle.
The "C" on the VIN number stands for Zuffenhausen.
I'm sure he gave us more infos during that evening but everything (firstly our clear mind abilities) then started to go ballistic....all because german beer,limoncello,italian wine, salami, good company, nice friends etc etc
How important this "RS2 issue" it is now and will be?
Well IMHO less then 3000 pieces produced, togheter with Porsche with badges name stickers paint codes (some) and bits and pieces....
I'll keep it and personally I wolud'nt change it (in terms of collectable value) with any "quattro GmbH" release.

Well the "C" might relate to the joint venture and therefore indirectly to Porsche's Zuffenhausen assembly plant where they had just finished the contract with Mercedes to assemble the 500E *BUT* the real designation that locks in Zuffenhausen as the assembly plant is the 11th digit/letter in the VIN.I found *this* thread pretty interesting and knowing your precision on everything Dave I reckon ti should be of some interest to you aswell....

Here is a real 95 RS2 VIN (with the last four numbers changed to protect the innocent
):
WACZZZ8CZSZ001234
W = Germany
A = Audi
C = ?? The joint venture ?? Normal Audis have "U" that equates to Audi passenger vehicle
ZZZ = All Audi's have that on the firewall/cowl stamp. North American vehicles have more info, e.g. my 93 UrS4 has HP8 where H = S4 sedan P = 2.2L turbo, 8 = steering wheel and passenger air bags.
8C = B4 Audi 90 (B3s were "89", my UrS4 is 4A, hence a lot of the parts start 4A)
Z = the check sum result (I only know the C4 algorithm)
S = 1995 model year
Z = Zuffenhausen assembly plant
001234 = the production number for that car.
Here are the plant codes for the 11th digit. The C4 UrS4/S6s were built in Neckarsulm Germany (near Heidelberg) so they have "N" for the 11th digit. The RS2s were Zuffenhausen, so "Z".
